Marv and I took a friend's advice, and last evening we went to the new to us restaurant on Commercial Street in downtown Waterloo. The Galleria De Paco has been in business for two and a half years and I didn't even realize it was a dining establishment. The fancy blue, neon sign with the name,Galleria De Paco, on the front of the building does not look like a typical eating place. And it's not! The moment you step inside the door you are assailed with colorful reproductions of Michelangelo Buonarroti's paintings in the Sistine Chapel covering the entire ceiling and the walls. It's almost too much to take in. But after we were cordially greeted, and then seated at an elegant table, in highback chairs, by the owner himself, we sat back and took in the tremendous art that Paco had produced with cans of spray paint. It did indeed look very much like the art I've seen in books and on TV of the Sistine Chapel. There isn't quite the detail of Michelangelo's work, but it is a remarkable likeness. The food that was served on unique tableware was delicious and presented as you would expect to see in a fine big city restaurant. It was much more than a good meal in an artsy decor, it was a dining experience... Right Here In Waterloo! The prices reflected all of the additional atmosphere, but for a special occasion, or a once in awhile special date, it is a place to experience! Check it out at this website. view link

Wow! What art — both with paint and culinary skills. It is a beautiful place. It would be fun to go there I'm sure. What a vision and a dream come true for the De Paco's.
