Energy bill or Cap & Trade?

Again we get a bill passed on a Friday before a holiday that wasn't read. So far 8% of the stimulus bill has been dispersed, yet needed to pass "immediately" and contained disbursements that had nothing to do with job creation.
We now have another bill, 800+ pages not including the 300+ page amendment added at 3:00am. What the hell are we doing in Washington? Arm twisting and deals made to pass a bill with little or no research on the outcome and affect on it's intended use or what it may or may not do to the economy and job creation or loss. Term limits...hell yes.
Your opinions please.

Think past your electricity bill at home. Think of how this will affect transportation, Agra business the little manufacturing left in this country. Fuel costs, as ethanol is exempt, food costs as corn replaces wheat, barley and oats as the crop of Midwest choice.

The cost of everything will rise... And so will unemployment.

And it gives Congress the power to control every facet of our daily behavior.

I listened to Mark Levin during this catastrophe in the House & find it SO despicable it still makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it. How could ANYONE vote for this bill is beyond me yet 219 reps did. The power THIS bill gives DOES invade every facet of our lives....this is TYRANNY & being perpetrated by our congress.

Isn't it interesting that this administration which promised us a more " transparent" goverment seems to have adopted a policy of rushing legislation through congress without even giving them a chance to read the bills , much less study and debate their merits , or lack thereof .

I GIVE UP.
Idiots are running the country.
Cap and trade was just a government way out of not saying we are going to tax you.
I said from the beginning, Obama is a snake oil salesman.
Too many poeople listen to the rhetoric without knowing the facts.
You are getting what you deserve.
Change =stupidity

We can only hope the Senate kills or severely limits this bill. Time to start calling and emailing again.

Where is my America? It no longer exists. Govt BY the people is long gone! Those washington politicians could care less about us. It is only more proof that the Democrats are spend crazy and tax nuts! Pretty soon we won't have a pay check..it will be gone to taxes.

I watched a program on the depression yesterday. Unemployment was 1 in 4 ppl.. 14 million were out of work and there was no govt assistance then. As well at that time the dust bowl happened which was biggest disaster in history! Will we be able to survive another depression? Those who do have a job won't have money to help those in need because it will be taken in taxes!

The effect will be to make energy more expensive and curtail it's use. The side effect will be to curtail economic activity. If we do nothing to conserve energy, eventually, economic activity will be curtailed anyway. Everything, we all know by now, takes energy, food, transport, consumer goods. This is a bill about pollution, but it's effects are energy consumption related. It also creates incentives, it appears, for green energy production. I admit I know nothing about the bill except what I see here from Fox news. I have been reading a lot about Peak Oil and the reckoning we will face when this resource is depleted. Coal is one alternative to oil, we have used it for railroads and heat and electricity. If we tax it now and curtail consumption, it can always be repealed later. I know what someone is going to say, when was the last time a tax was repealed. However, the reality is we are running out of the fossil fuels life as we know it depends on. This looks like a case of pay now or pay later, to me. Once you burn the oil or coal, it is gone, and we can't wait millions of years for it to come back. Perhaps some throttling down will keep us from running out, we are running on empty. Shale oil and tar sands? Not a viable alternative from what I read. "Drill, baby, drill?" Fine, then what, when it's gone. Maybe thinking of future generations will put this into some perspective. Just, of course, my opinion, as a 'umble pirate. Glad I've got me chainsaw, wood heat is looking better all the time.
