Jade Junkie

Howdy y'all. I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Eric, but you can call me Zeke, seeing as how there are already at least two Eric/ks already here. Seems to be a common problem. I'm originally from Roanoke Virgina. My family moved to Seattle in '84 (for the mountains)and later to Bremerton, Washington. In the fall of '08 we moved to Bellingham,(WA) in no small part for the rockhounding!
My personal obsession, if you couldn't tell, is Jade, but I love rock collecting in general. In the process of searching and learning how to identify jade I have learned a great deal about geology and found some interesting specimens. I'm still extremely new at this though, and so I am always looking to hear new perspectives and opinions and , of course, knowledge. I would like to share with y'all my collection, but as it is I've already put alot of work in another site and I'm not about redo the whole thing. Instead I'll direct you to my profile on that site (the pictures on which link to Photobucket where you can comment on anything you see there, or reference here.) I'm still going to post the interesting stuff here...first for now on, but will retain my original format for my own sanity. You don't have to join the other site to view my stuff by the way. I really hope to see your collections too as it is a great way for me to learn. Strangly I'm interested in "common" rocks (I like to know what something is;-)). I plan on getting into lapidary work too, as soon as I can get the funds together for the equipment. Here is the link to my other profile:

............welcome to our group Eric/Zeke. Gotta say that is too funny. As a pimply faced teen a million years ago, I remember Zeke the Freak was one of my more notorious nicknames. So you live up in the rainforest huh. All of WA, and most especially the Tumwater-Olympia area is the home of all my in laws. Have you collected any Ellensburg Blue Chalcedony yet? Or fossils over at Republic? Or ash up on St Helens? So Jade is you forte? Cool. Well I hope you can enjoy our group, and the way it goes through busy, and then slow cycles here. I figure that if we are all staying busy working still, or out enjoying free time and collecting rocks, that we all come back and get centered and reveal our latest adventures sooner or later. So welcome to Collecting Rocks and Minerals, and hope you can enjoy telling your rock stories or teaching some of us something new, there is always room for more knowledge. Happy rockin', Erik/Nam

What Erik (NamVet) says is true about this group going in cycles. Sometimes it's jumping and then other times, like now, it's kind of quiet. So don't get discouraged if it seems like no one is responding. Eventually it picks up. ;-)

Thanks Erik and Eric. I haven't hit Ellensburg yet or Republic (both on my to-do list), but I have been to St.Helens...absolutly no collecting allowed. but I'm sure I ended up with a rock or two. it was a long time ago. I'm all out of time. so I talk to you two later.

Was it something I said? :-) What happened to that thread? I suppose it doesn't matter, but still I'm curious. I posted that I had met the WashingtonJade.com guy on tDeer Creek the other day, and I described the rock to him. just by going on the description (which isn't much to go on) he said it sounds like "classic HGG." I then noted that it is strange that there are so few like that on the creek as the creek runs through and is situated below one of the largest areas of rodingization I've seen on the geologic maps for Washington(rodingite=hydrogrossular garnet). Still I think he might be right. I emailed he the link to the pictures, so I should get an answer soon. Just an update to those interested, no responce required, but what happened to the other thread and post?

Sometimes threads disappear on Eons, Zeke. It has nothing to do with you. It just a glitch that occurs every now and then. ;-)

Well, as long as you don't anger the Internet gods! They can be extremely wrathful! LOL ;-)
