New member and a question

Hi all, I'm new here, and glad to find a beading/jewelry group! I'm wondering if anyone else does macrame jewelry? I've recently started, and I'm totally hooked!
I just moved from a normal-sized home to a tiny studio apt (getting divorced!) and with macrame, I don't need as much room for tools, supplies, etc. Hope to get to know you all!
welcome Pictures, Images and Photos

Macrame wow haven't heard of this for years. I imagine this jewelry is lovely. Years ago I was part of a macrame group with hanging items etc. fun memories.. Good luck with your adventure, your recent divorce (keep happy), and myself new to jewelry making and just love it.

Thanks! Yep, most people picture those hanging plant holders, lol! It's really pretty, with some very intricate designs! Hope you enjoy the new hobby! It can be totally addicting!

Hello - welcome to the jewelry group! I also took macrame classes in the mid-70s and learned to make plant hangers and wall hangings, etc. My daughter and I took it a step further and started making jewelry with waxed linen cord - I had found a neat jewelry book with some great designs. Recently at a bead show that came here, I found a couple of updated macrame jewelry books - The 2nd All New Micro Macrame book by Kris Buchanan and The 3rd All New Micro Macrame book. These two have some stunning projects! I have the beads and bought some C-Lon jewelry cord in different colors from Janes Fiber and Beads (she is online). Now to see if I can remember all those fancy knots I learned way back when!

Hello again - forgot to mention the new macrame books can probably be seen online - the author is www.kristinebuchanan.com. I believe this lady has 4 books out now on macrame jewelry and all look wonderful!

I also did the whole macrame thing in the 70's - plant hangers to purses which were my favorite thing. I got some cord recently for the jewelry idea, but haven't really gotten started. Those books sound great. They probably would be good inspiration. Welcome aboard - can't wait to see pictures of what you have made.

Thanks everyone! I'll check out amazon for those books. I just splurged and got 'Ornamental Knots for Beaded Jewelry' and it has some incredible pieces in it. Sort of a cross between Chinese knotting with some macrame thrown in. Can't wait to dive into it!

Speaking of macrame - I just added a macrame necklace I made awhile back to our photos - I believe the pattern for it was in a Bead and Button magazine.
Happy beading & macrame!

Thanks! I'll go look for it now! I pretty much stopped buying magazines, but maybe I should start browsing them again!

Welcome to the group. Speaking of macrame, I made a bracelet a couple of years ago in a class and we used basic macrame using 22g soft sterling wire plus lampwork beads. Just posted a photo of it. It's a little too rigid for my comfort, but it was fun to do and nice to look at.

Hi greatbatch -
Your bracelet is very pretty! That style seems to be very popular right now - I see the style alot in Etsy.com - a site for all things handmade (also jewelry supplies and other supplies as well).
