I welcome you again to the group. Let's see if we can stir up some activity.
What are you looking for in a retirement job>
John
Hi, sorry about the delay in responding. I've not been back to EONS lately. For me, an ideal retirement job is one where I can work from home, preferably computer-related or as a home agent --as, for example, in customer service, but to be perfectly 100% honest, I sure do not want to have to go back into an office environment unless there're no other alternatives. My retirement and social security will not allow me to take care of the various ministries that I love while supporting myself. My utilities (electric and water) alone just keep going up almost every 4 months or so, and now my city has begun to bill all home owners another tax or whatever they may want to call it, billing us an entire year in advance and will not allow this new tax, first introduced a year ago, to be paid in installments.
To keep busy and to perhaps (as a result of getting out among other people), I've even tried to find volunteer opportunities in my city, hoping that in addition to being a help, for the fringe benefits that can come as a result of being around other busy people, namely the opportunity of networking and meeting people who may be able to give me some leads. For some reason however, in contacting various agencies I never get a response to my inquiries. Also, many of the volunteer opportunities seem to just about require a PH.D. in order for one to be acceptable.
I search the internet daily in numerous employment opportunity web sites. Businesses here in my city no longer appreciate anyone calling to them to ask if they have any openings and will not accept resumes unless they actually have openings. They prefer potential employees to either go to their web site and apply for actual openings they have posted there, or if they may have jobs posted elsewhere such as Career Builder, Monster, etc., or in the jobs sections of local online newspapers and other local sites such as the jobs sections that some of our TV stations make available for us.
I'm not a quitter. I spend hours searching off and on most of the day every day. After my morning and evening devotions, I get right back into the job search most days, I do so for hours, except for Sundays when only a minimum of time is spent doing job searches).
Occasionally, I have been bold enough to call a few places where I've heard there were openings but most companies are too busy for that kind of encounter and I don't get responses. I've been blessed that I have had a few interviews, but it appears most companies just don't like hiring people in my age range in spite of my strong work ethics, great attendance, and maturity.
