Hello there...

I am new to your group, and know nothing about photography, except that I enjoy it. I would like to learn a little about composition, and what makes a good picture good. Luckily I have a camera that thinks for me, and makes picture-taking a snap, but I realize there's a lot more to real photography than a little Nikon... so I hope you won't mind if I ask a lot of questions...or perhaps you can steer me to a short tutorial packed with information. : ) Anyway, I am glad I found your group, and love looking at the really cool pics.

Welcome DustyJewel! This group is for all who have an interest in photography. There are no prerequisites to joining this group (well, we do like to see each others' work). All that you need is a willingness to learn and to share Oh yes, and a camera! LOL

No need to feel shy about asking questions. We were all beginners when we started out so you are in good company. There is a saying which I find to be true and that is that mastery of any discipline is achieved by having a beginner's mind.

I did find a short tutorial online that I hope you will find helpful in getting started. Since I do not know what model Nikon you own, the link I'm posting has general (but helpful) information for all of the cameras that Nikon currently produces. Check it out at view link

If this is too basic for you, let me know.
BTW, what model Nikon do you own?

cheers,
tl

Welcome! I may suggest just go back through the archived posts in the group. We have covered a lot of material, and asked and answered many questions. Post some images and add 'PC' (for please critique)and you will get some friendly, helpful input.

Here are a few tips on composition, but I agree that the best advice is the one that eagleye suggests: posts your pictures and ask for comments one one aspect or another.

And this is a treasure trove:

Thank you Raouf for posting a few great informational links. Everyone should check these out! (I was well acquainted with one but not the others...especially the treasure trove.) Good stuff!

Sorry to be so remiss in responding to your posts, but I have been very busy the last few days. I am going to check out the links you so helpfully posted, and I will get back with you tomorrow. Some of the pictures I have snapped are in my photo center if you care to look, and maybe let me know if any are worth posting. : ) PC

Hi Jimmy, thanks. Raouf...your links are just what I was looking for, and I am going to take them one at a time. Today I am going to try using the rule of thirds, and I'll share what I have learned. Thislife, I have a Coolpix...anything special I should know about using this very simple camera?
