Work in Progress

A co worker asked me to paint her husbands sailboat for his birthday and retirement.
This first was just practice, on 10" X 14".
I plan to do the final on a full sheet.

Any suggestions appreciated.
I have more details to add to this practice attempt.

I will post the end results for good or ill!

Great so far ..... love what you've done with the background ..... the peachy soft sunset seems to be chasing away the blue sky ..... however I think you might need one more bird to balance the composition (rule of 3's) perhaps placing another bird in the sky on the upper left would be a good spot. Just a suggestion!
I'm anxiously awaiting seeing the finished piece!

No tooartsy, you're doing fine. Post your suggestions in the main posts or in the group photos either one. We're not picky around here. LOL

Presented my first commission today to Earl and Cindy with over 20 friends and family..on Earls birthday and retirement.

The colors really did end up going well with the painting she wants to hang it next to.
This was a temporary frame.

It was an education for me...working under pressure, committment, communication with the customer ect.
It was worth it.

Thanks for your input...the full story is at the link in the main message above.

Absolutely beautiful! Congrats, job well done! Looks like they liked it! As long as the "customer" is satisfied you've done a good job!

Thanks for posting the link to the other discussion, I enjoyed seeing the work in progress and the input you got. The end result is great and I'm really happy for you that the customer is happy. I kind of learned the same thing about having really good communication with the customer, when I did a cartoon for my employer ... he'd accidentally shot a hole into the floor of his sail boat, The Black Jack, while cleaning his gun. I had the whole thing done (and had shown him my initial sketches) ... but never once did he mention the name of the craft until he saw the finished drawing and said I should have put "Black Jack" on the life saver ring on the wall ... and I never thought to ask what the boat's name was. Live and learn!
