PT...I had something similar happen during the daylight hours several weeks ago. Two women were walking around my cul-de-sac taking photos of all the houses. I wandered outside with my dog to see what was up. The explanation was (and I have no reason to doubt them) that they were taking photos of the houses so they could be identified properly (house number, etc) for the upcoming Census. It's an aid for the census takers. Maybe that's what your mystery truck was doing.
I hope so, it scares me because I care for children. All my advertising has NO address, I don't give that out until I can do some screening.
He took a pic of my house only though. I was also hoping maybe it was related to the HOA but they only care about certain things and my home is in good repair and looks nice, never had a problem.
The other thing I was thinking was maybe it was a contractor looking for houses that need roof repair after recent hail damage. But you wouldn't be able to see anything on the roof from that angle (I went out in the street where he stopped to be sure, lol).

Just a suggestion. Contact you local police department just to see if they had any other calls.
I would check with the local Police Dept. and ask them what the possible motive could be for someone taking these pictures. They can tell you too whether this is something the census takers or roof repair people are known to do. For us to try and second guess what might be going on is really not enough. You need to check it out with a higher authority.
Possibly someone is in the process of building a house and liked your landscape, paint scheme etc. and will be comparing pictures.
Also, sometimes realtors will take pics of a neighbor hood they think a client from out of town with thoughts of relocating might like.
Lots of reasons - google earth identifies individual addresses, but I'm not sure about night shots. I go walking and take photos of trees and flowers I like and often the houses are included in the shot. There is a "smoke tree" on a main road where I can't walk and I've taken photos of the tree (and house) more than once from the car during light traffic times.
I agree with calling your local police station...at least that way you have made a report in case there is something "not quite right" going on...better safe than sorry...
The Census people are out in force updating property records, but it doesn't make sense for a photo of one property at night, be taken during a canvas.
I don't know how large your town is, but a call to the police would be a good idea. A camera flash would call attention to a would be burglar so that doesn't make sense either. I'd suggest staying alert to what is going on (talk to your neighbors as well), keep your doors locked and give it a week or two of being aware.
You having any problems with anyone?
