I was walking down some stairs a few years ago - actually walking a friend out of our condo to her car and my slipper slipped off and I fell when i tried to put it back on. My friend laughed ...because we had some wine that night but I was careless not falling down drunk. I was sore for a couple weeks but didn't break anything either. It is a serious thing. I use the rail now - I am not that old but I don't want that to happen again.
I posted an article in our Caregivers group - here is a
view link - there are a lot of things you can do.
I also found out that an antidepressant that is commonly prescribed for seniors - Zoloft - uses seratonin as an active ingredient - like the stuff that makes you sleep can cause falls. A better alternative is an antidepressant that uses dopamine (like Wellbutrin) - a chemical that occurs naturally when you fall in love...that's a pretty good feeling. Won't make you fall anywhere - well, if you're in love maybe a bed but that won't hurt you...LOL!
