New here...

Hi to All!

I'm new here. I have a passion for writing and journaling. Not sure if this is the right forum for me, but will see in time. The reason I say that, is I'm not sure what type of writing you are all interested in.

My dream would be to write a book about my life. I have several autoimmune diseases and I am living with a fairly rare muscle disorder. Even one of my doctors told me I should write a book. Over the years, even before my health problems, I have had people tell me that I should write. Two of them were English teachers, high school and tech college. I'm 48 and still haven't fulfilled my dream. My last child just graduated high school, so I am thinking that I should soon have some time for me.

Do you feel this is the right forum for me? Do you welcome autobiography type of writing? Anyone else here doing it? I am anxious to learn how others have accomplished this type of writing. I would like to learn what style of writing is best for autobiography. I may not even share any of this at first, but right now, as I said, I'm just really anxious to learn.

Hope to get to know you all real soon.

Hi Maggie,

If you look back at the posts in the list of messages you'll see we have all kinds of writing here on the web. Everything except poetry, our guidelines say no poetry. As far as style, I think you'll hit on what's right for your piece as you go. For your first draft, just write what comes to mind. Then when you're all done go back and fine tune it. If you'll get into the exercises we do here, you can't help but learn! And besides that, we like to help each other with comments and suggestions. If you request a critique you'll get that also. So, yes, I suspect this group may be just what you're looking for. :)

I believe you'll be happy here. This is a great group with people who love to write and learn new things. I have written my autobiogrpahy several years ago. No matter how much a person writes you can always learn new things. Caredoe and Sunny are great about putting interesting prompts up. The prompt is one place to practice writing and have fun at the same time.

Welcome. I'm glad you joined us.
