Should I Feel Guilty Today

I know it's Monday and there is no excuse really, but I am taking the day off from job search stress and going for a long walk along "The Lake", meaning Lake Michigan. I am going to eat lunch outside and "people watch" at a cafe. The weather forecast here (Chicago area) is for rain, including thunderstorms, the rest of the week! It's beautiful, birds singing, expected high at least 75 degrees. I can spend tomorrow through at least Saturday at the library looking for a job, doing yet another version of my resume, looking for more job websites, all that drudgery. Should I feel guilty doing this since I also did this yesterday (Sunday) and Saturday afternoon?

What you're actually doing is recharging. Taking time to reflect on the wonder around you is probably the best thing you can do. And you never know who you might meet while you're appreciating life that can help you in you job search.

In order to present our "best" to others (in this case the people hiring) we need to be and especially FEEL our best to ourselves. You need to have the mindset that YOU are worth the investment of a lovly afternoon at the lake.

As long as this doesn't become the norm, or an "escape" you should be in good shape!

It's my opinion that we shouldn't waste our time on self guilt........it just breeds more to be "guilty" about!!!

believe in your dreams,

While you are recharging the mind and batteries, and reflecting on your options, have you considered anything other than becoming an employee again?

Some of us former employees have discovered that carving our own path through life outside the traditional 'employee' role has served us well.

See if there is a business option for self-employment that would provide you the income you need, while eliminating the prospect of another pink slip in your future.

I can relate! I'm looking, too, and decided to take the afternoon off. I'm feeling that twinge of guilt, but I know I need the time off. I've worked hard for two weeks now, and at some point, well, you need a break! Hope your job search produces results for you soon!
