Night Drive

There’s something bout the way
The street looks after it rains
The way the pavement shines
And how slightly different
My footsteps sound on wet concrete
As I walk back to where I parked my car
It was a little past 10 and
I was in no rush to get home
I had the window rolled down
Letting the wind blow on my face
It still has the feeling of rain
And it smelled so good
I sniffed and let it fill my lungs
As I drove by, one by one
The shops in town closed for the night
I was headed home and the radio
Was playing a love song I knew so well
I sang as I took in the beauty of the evening
The streets and trees glimmering
As raindrops reflect the lights in different directions
And I say to myself, “I can drive all night.”
