High POint Low Point of your Day

Just wondering what is the high point and low point of your day dealing with dementia.

Let's Start with Friday!

High point was Ma Katie's lights were on a little brighter today. I think it was because my grands were there and she was making sure those "kids didn't tear up her stuff". (: Brought her back into reality!

Low point was she forgets she cannot walk and gets up and falls, tearing her leg open. Luckily didn't break anything. She was in another patient's room and was going to set "her" grandfather clock!

Low point, Ma Katie forgot she couldn't walk again and fell and had to have 7 stitches on her arm. Sad thing is her skin is so thin, they had to do it with butterfly stitches but really need the real thing so it looks awful. She keeps saying she has been burned so I know it hurts.

High point is she was up and in her wheelchair today and roaming the halls.

High Point Ma Katie knew her grandson from Wisconsin and was fairly alert. Best she has been in awhile.

Low point She cried to see familyl which does not come to see her.

Low Point Got back from three days to see my aunt who has Alzheimers and Ma Katie did not know us. Very little response today and she has an infection in her feet which is causing them to swell and she can't wear shoes.

High point: Aunt did now us and we had a good visit. I would say she is in her beginning stage even though her daughter thought she was in her last stage. She has a lot to learn about this disease, bless her heart.

Vicki, just dropping in to check on Ma Katie. You and Sammy are so good to visit her and take care of her personal needs. I hope the other local family members help, too. It must be so hard on you, just realize you've done your best. We never know when we may have the same problem or a friend or family member. God Bless each of you in this group.

Thanks, Linda. Sadly, the care is mostly ours. I have another sister in law who checks on her but the heat is affecting her lumbago and she can't get out in it. Meds.

So Sammy and I tend to things. It is not so bad as she took care of Sammy for years and she was a great mother in law and grandmother to my kids.

I am praying for you and your brother also. Please keep me posted.

Austin and I went to see Ma Katie and she was a riot as she rolled off and left us sitting in her room because she heard the football boys doing two a days and they were more interesting than we were. She loves to sit at the back door and holler at them. The nurse said she opened the door (which sets off an alarm on the Alz wing) and yelled, "You better quit hitting that fat boy so hard." I rolled! Just hope the boy couldn't hear her!

Out of the mouths of babes!

High point: Mom woke up before noon, which means I could feed her then go do errands and spend time with my grandkids before I have to come home and deal with dinner. Sometimes she sleeps til 3pm or so!
Low point: is the same every day, her old, old, old dog who messes on the floor. This morning it was right out side my bedroom door!

Well, Adalinda, hope you did not step in it (:

When they get to the sleeping stage, it is almost a blessing as their
confusion isn't looking at us with that bewildered plead for us to make it better.

Ma Katie is sleeping more and more but when she is awake she just looks at us like "do something" and it breaks my heart. She still has her moments of clarity occassionally and when she does, she still makes us laugh.

We have been blessed to have her in our lives and I am sure your mom knows how blessed she is to have you!

High point was Ma Katie smiled all the way through our singing today. She was even mouthing the words along with us. Music is a great thing for dementia patients.

Low point was granddaughter's team got beat 20 to 2 BUT she said she had a blast so guess at 5, they don't care as long as they are getting to play!
