e-books

Does anyone have or use an e-book/ I just got mine and i love it. Sometimes it is hard for me to hold a book and this way I don't have to.

Eons has a Kindle group that is kind of fun to be a part of. I have an original Kindle I got last Oct. and I love it. I especially love how I can download samples for free and then decide if I want to read the book. It's kind of like browsing a library or book store.

A friend asked me a kindle question the other day, and I felt really stupid, I didn't know the answer. She wondered if you can listen to a book on Kindle or if you have to read it... Can somebody tell me?

Call me old fashioned, but there is something warm and intimate about a book..I still need something not affected by the computer. The feel of the pages..if it had been read before maybe some tabbed down pages. There may be a day when I go e..but for now, I like a normal book.

My public library sytem has e-books you can download to your computer, and now to your MP3. I think the book itself is called an ebook, and the kindle type things are "reading devices", or"readers". Although, aren't we the readers? lol

And this is about the latest Kindle:

"Read-to-Me Feature

"With the new text-to-speech feature, Kindle can read every newspaper, magazine, blog and book out loud to you, unless the book is disabled by the rights holder. You can switch back and forth between reading and listening, and your spot is automatically saved. Pages automatically turn while the content is being read, so you can listen hands-free. You can choose from both male and female voices which can be sped up or slowed down to suit your preference. In the middle of a great book or article but have to jump in the car? Simply turn on Text-to-Speech and listen on the go."

p.s. the library downloads are free. Unfortunately I don't know if they can go on a Kindle.

you can delete the book and then if you want it again you go into archives and get it back

Library downloads do not download to Kindles. There are lots of free downloads on the internet, but you're probably going to download them to your laptop.

LHR, where is the huge library of old books for the Kindle? On Amazon? I am trying to decide about getting one but cost is somewhat of a factor. I love to read and could have a huge bill easily but if there are lots of old books I could download for vacation reading... Thanks!

Speaking of the Archives section on Kindle readers, I assume the capacity here is close to infinite. But is there any way to permanently delete your read book titles here? Or a valid reason for doing so? While we're at it, does someone ever dump outdated group messages or do they too joy eternal life there?

It would be difficult to determine "outdated group messages." If some newbies want to discuss books previously discussed old messages can be resurrected and the discussion continues. .......and the beat goes on!
