Welcome, hikers! Please read...

We're all enjoying learning about each other and the different kinds of hikes we take, equipment we use, and strategies for improving hikes. One of our favorite things to do is share photos, and we ask members to post only one photo in your message, and other photos (as many as you want) in the first reply, so our front page stays neat, attractive, and easy to maneuver around.

The Trailhead

Here's a place to check in if you don't want to start a new message. We'd like to know each other better, so use this chance to tell us what name you like to go by here, what your hiking situation is, and something else about yourself. I'll start...

Hi, I'm Valley. I have another name, but I prefer Valley, and it suits me. I'm very lucky to live in Alaska around lots of trails and lots of people who hike. I'm in two hiking groups--a large women's Tuesday group and a small Friday co-ed group, which I lead. I'm considered the group photographer just because other people seldom bring cameras. Hm, other stuff about me--I'm a retired special ed teacher, I like to play piano at home, and this summer I have a project to transform our yard into a woodsy wonderland, so if you don't find me in our house, I'm either on a trail or out in the weeds making big plans. :o) Your turn...

.....Hello, I'm Erik/Nam. Either way works. I live in NV, an hour east of Reno, on the high desert of the Great Basin. I like to hike almost everyday, particularly in the Virginias Ranges Quadrangle, and collect rocks and minerals, and document the wild horses here through photographs and my stories on Eons. The outdoors is my sanctuary and freedom......

Hi. I'm Harry of gentlehm. I have hiked in most areas of the country. I started hiking in CA in college, and haven't given it up yet. I don't plan to. Right now I live in Evansville, IN (the midwest). The beauty here isn't as grand as other places but we have some wonderful hiking areas within two hours of my town. Photography is another one of my passions, I wish I had more time to get outdoors.

Welcome to the group, we all wish we had more time! I find hiking in different parts of the country to be a lot of fun, just wish I could get around some more, and more often, too.

Hi, I'm Bill (fishbait49) I started hiking when I was very young although at the time I just saw it as a way to get from point A to point B. I grew up in a rural area of north central MN and if you wanted to go anywhere in the neighborhood, you walked. I usually hike with my dog Tasha, and because she's 13+ and has developed a bad case of arthritis in one knee our hikes have gotten a lot shorter.

We just try to take more of them. I recently started hiking with a brother-in-law in the evening after work.
That's been fun. I've been trying to get my wife to hike more with me this summer but she just doesn't feel the passion. I'll keep working on her. Good hiking all. Bill
