June 2009 - Organize checklist

Welcome to our monthly organizing checklist. There's a different organizing suggestion for you to do every day of the month--all easy, down-to-earth, and no thinking 'what should I do?' required. When the month changes, so does our checklist.

____ Jun 1 Go for a morning walk. 10-15 minutes may be just enough to wake you up and get your adrenaline going. If you prefer, make it a morning run instead.

____ Jun 2 Enjoy a rose today. It’s National Rose month. Did you know the rose is the official National Floral Emblem of the United States?____

Jun 3 With more hours of sunlight, your indoor plants have a chance to thrive this time of year. Give them a healthy dose of fertilizer, replenish low levels of soil and transfer larger plants into bigger pots.

____ Jun 4 A variety of birds are out during the summer. You can usually hear many of them chirping. Now is a great time to go bird watching. If you look closely, you may even see a few hummingbirds. Put out a feeder with sugar water and you will attract hummingbirds

____ Jun 5 Set up a picnic date and invite a few old friends to attend. Have everyone bring a dish and spend a couple hours at a local park enjoying a great lunch and lively conversation.

____ Jun 6 Organize a garage sale. Clean out clothes and get rid of the junk. Consider getting neighbors involved. Have the kids open a lemonade stand for extra money while you’re selling.

____ Jun 7 Pick your own strawberries and raspberries. These fruits are in season now and are very healthy in addition to being very tasty in smoothies and other desserts

____ Jun 8 Volunteer a few hours of your time and expertise for a needy cause. Many volunteer opportunities can be found by checking your local newspapers.

____ Jun 9 Enjoy a big glass of milk, a scoop of ice cream or a slice of cheese. Dairy items are a great source of calcium and vitamins. June is National Dairy Month.

____ Jun 10 Prep your guest room for summer visitors. Set out fresh linens, towels and soaps. Set out a vase of fresh flowers and don’t forget a few sweet treats on the pillow for an extra special touch.

____ Jun 11 June bugs a/k/a June beetles are the name of several large beetles, prevalently seen throughout the U.S. in May and June. You can hear them because they will sometimes bump into a window. They have a hard shell on their back. Keep them out of your home, by turning off your porch lights and keeping your entry doors shut while they’re present.

____ Jun 12 Support your local economy by shopping at the farmers market for the freshest produce. You will find a variety of fruits and vegetables to enjoy.

____ Jun 13 Make today a day to celebrate you. Do something that you have wanted to do for a while but have been putting it off. It can be something as simple as taking a bubble bath! But make sure to do something important for yourself.

____ Jun 14 Today is Flag Day USA. Flag Day is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for our flag, its designers and makers. Our flag is representative of our independence and our unity as a nation. So raise the flag today and every day with pride!

____ Jun 15 If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to start planning your activities for the Fourth of July weekend coming up soon.

____ Jun 16 June is a prime month for tornados touchdowns in many US states. Make sure you are prepared. Know where to go if the weather gets threatening.

____ Jun 17 You may already have a few Motown songs in your music collection. Dust them off and listen to them. Otherwise, look into the history of Motown where there is a lot of great music to be heard and enjoyed. Motown is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

____ Jun 18 Do a good deed today. Make someone else’s day by helping someone or giving someone a compliment.

____ Jun 19 Weddings are common in June. If you have some upcoming weddings to attend this summer, make sure you have a few wedding cards on hand for the occasion.

____ Jun 20 If you have a dog, give it a bath. Consider doing it outside in the nice weather. Use the garden hose and let your dog dry out while running around the yard.

____ Jun 21 Spend the day celebrating the fathers in your life. It’s Father’s Day.

____ Jun 22 Summer has officially begun. Summer is known for the time of blockbuster movies. Take in a new movie with the family today or a rent a blockbuster from the past.

____ Jun 23 Spend your day with the children doing something that they want to do.

____ Jun 24 Now is a good time to clean and organize your garage. Maximize your space by storing as much as you can on or along the walls. Use hooks and shelves to organize tools and put seasonal and less used items on top shelves.

____ Jun 25 Look through that folder full of recipes and pick a new dish to try today. Go out and buy all the ingredients. Ask the family to decide if it’s a keeper.

____ Jun 26 Start a summer scrapbook. Save even the small stuff like the price tag from your favorite sundress, amusement park ticket stubs, photo booth pics of you and friends and family and vacation postcards. All of these items can be used to create a one-of-kind fun scrapbook of a chapter of your life.

____ Jun 27 Become an expert. Pick a topic you have been interested in and spend a little time each week doing some online research on it. By the end of the summer, you’ll be knowledgeable on a whole new topic.

____ Jun 28 Have you read a book lately? If not, pick up a new novel at the library or the bookstore and enjoy a good story.

____ Jun 29 Visit the local museum. Many times the children can get in for free.

___ Jun 30 E-mail a friend you have not talked to for a while.

Please post if you get anything done. I am finding these lists something good for me to think about what needs to be done in my busy life. How about you??
