hi I feed Life Abundance by Trilogy. A holistic food that is wonderful. Less feeding and less mess. Great stools with very little smell. Great coats, etc. They have comparisons so you can see the difference in other foods as the difference in cost of feeding. You can have it auto shipped right to your door. Check it out on my website

I've saved both of those links - have an appointment in 45 minutes, but will give them both a thorough review when I get home.!! Thank you Collie and JayJos for providing those links.

I switched to a modified Raw diet about 8 years ago, and even with the economy, and recently having been downsized, I am not going to change it! My dogs look great- hold weight and coat and stay healthier on this diet. Its "a bit" more expensive than just buying a bag of dog food- but my dogs are certainly worth it!
I feed a base diet of a grain free kibble (I alternate between Evo and Instinct- and switch between the poultry and red meat formula's)and supplement with raw meaty bones, ground chicken, veal, lamb, beef, raw whole fish- skinless chicken necks, chicken backs, buffalo; in other words, whatever I choose to purchase from the butcher or suppliers.
The key is variety, since that limits allergies and tummy upsets! The dogs are getting about 80% raw to 20% kibble.
Newly weaned puppies are started on ground Evo and ground chicken, goats milk and cottage cheese- I don't use milk replacer at all any more. I don't have fat roly-poly puppies- I have little muscular mini-adult looking puppies that can keep up with the adults in the play yard.
Using a base kibble means I don't worry about grinding vegetables and providing fruits- its all taken care of in the kibble- and when we travel in the motor home to shows, the dogs have more kibble for the weekend- we don't have to fill our fridge with raw meat for the dogs.
My husband is a practicing Veterinarian, he has seen the difference it has made in our own dogs and in our puppies, and he recommends a modified raw diet to most of his clients now. Any premium diet can be improved with the addition of healthy raw meat and bones!
But that is JMHO
I feed Eagle Pac for breakfast and boiled chicken rice, gr beans and peas for dinner. when I cook the rice I add ex vir olive oil to the water I prepare it in . My dogs have been eating this way for about 7 years, and everyone is very healthy, with nice coats. My tibetan terrier is a show dog so for him I leave out the rice as I don't want I to get stuck in his beard and break off the hair.
I have fed Evangers products for years. They have a wonderful choice of meat proteins to choose from which allows me to rotate their diets as per Whole Dog Journal recommends. I love their newest dry formula. It is a low grain diet consistenting of Whitefish & Sweet Potato with only rye for the grain. I switch my dogs to this a month ago & their coats look fabulous! I also love that Evangers supports the fancy with their Dog Sport Exhibitor Program. A great way to feed a high quality food & save money too! They have been sponsoring quite a few show lately as well. Their canned line is as close to raw as one could get. 100% meat no fillers. esp love the whole chicken thigh & the whole mackeral. The dogs go crazy over these!
I feed Evanger's canned but not the dry. It contains citric acid. There was a lengthy study done at Purdue University to determine likely causes of bloat. One of the things that was noted was that there was a higher incidence of bloat in dogs fed foods containing citric acid. There is no way to know for sure if the citric acid is causing bloat or if there is something else going on that involves food containing citric acid. Here is a Tufts University discussion about bloat:
view linkOf course, concerns about bloat are more important to people with large or giant breed dogs which are more likely to be victims of bloat.
Linda,
Can you tell me more about the dental rinse you add to the water? Brand? Where to buy? How long you've been using and any difference you've seen?
Thank you.
Natures Select, have been feeding since 2005, had them alert me that they were not part of the recall program, dogs are doing great on the food and the best part is they have free delivery, check out paulspetfood.com

There is NO citric acid in Evangers foods. They do use Absorbic acid a source of Vit C, it is not the same thing.
