New to beading

I innocently went to a meetup a week ago to see what beading was all about.

Well, after seeing cool stuff, and meeting some great folks, I ended up at Michaels to get some basic supplies, and came out with enough beads and findings to complete a couple things. Then I went home and fished out all my jewelry lying about and begin examining how it is put together and noting arrangements, etc.

then, I want BACK to Michaels to get ONE thing ... a beadboard, and came out with some beads for another project -- you know, saw them and just had to have them. I've practiced stringing them in different arrangements ... it is so fun.

I think I'm hooked. Our group is getting together in a week to learn the basics and begin actually making necklaces and earrings. I'm so excited.

Glad I found this group ... it will be fun sharing the adventure and hearing about everyone's projects.

Hello -
Glad you are into beading - it is such a fun hobby! And it is very addictive as you are starting to see for yourself. I have been beading for 11 years now and still enjoy it very much. I have done some beading consignments for a lady who was selling her raku like faces (and gemstone beads) in an IBS (bead show) that comes here 3 to 4 times/year. I have also made many jewelry items for family and friends as gifts, as well as making jewelry to match my own outfits. More recently, I opened an Etsy shop and sell some of my jewelry there - nardiesarttowear.Etsy.com - in case you'd like to take a peak. My daughter also sells her jewelry items on Etsy - her shop is moonlilydesigns.Etsy.com. We have fun doing this, however - there are many jewelry makers on Etsy, among many other sellers who make all types of handmade items.
Happy beading!

It's great you have joined us beaders. I guess you are starting to see how addictive it can be. It starts with a few beads here and there and before you know it, they have taken over a room in your house. It is a great hobby and you can make custom jewelry to match your outfits. Best of luck to you and I would be happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

Welcome to the group! Yes, it often seems to start off so innocently...a class, browsing in a beadstore (my personal downfall) but you'll most likely find that it leads you down a path which is great fun and filled with satisfaction.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure I'll be having questions as soon as I get going. I stopped at Hobby Lobby yesterday and found a nice accent bead for a neckland I have laid out ... well, found two actually, so guess I'll have to make two pieces. I can see how this can get all consuming.
