cliques

Difinition per Wikipedia: is an exclusive group of people who share interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity.

I didn't like them in high school and I don't like them now. Were you a member of one? You know the kind of clique I'm talking about don't you?

I actually found out I was in one during lunch period back in 11th grade, when my friends started making fun of this girl who just moved to our school. They made fun of her because she was wearing hot pants in February. Not so bad if you are in FL, but we were in PA.

I remember that day that she wanted to sit at our table and my friends told her that all the seats were taken. I got up and went to an empty table with her. She became my best friend.

Have any clique stories?

No clique stories. I wasn't one of the popular cheerleaders and not in any cliques. But I have to say that I have seen some cliques in my travels through eons and one of the nicest surprises I got was coming here and not feeling like I'm intruding on a clique. You guys accepted me right from Day 1 and you've become very important to me. :-)

LkeeperDeb, that is exactly what I want to read about our group. Thank you so very much for stating that and I agree, the nicest bunch on EONS.

I too have seen them in the halls and groups on Eons too.

Me, too. They welcome you, say nice words of friendly greeting, and then completely ignore you.

I like this group, too. One of the only ones I'm still participating in on a regular basis.

Welcome home, Mary. I don't think I was ever in a clique of the sort you're describing. Now, if the anti-clique group was a clique, I guess I was in that. You know, the guys that let air out of the corvette's tires? The guys that picked up volkswagens moved them from the parking lot to the grass?

I was never considered "clique" material in High School. I was the loner and the sometime punching bag of guys that had "chips" on their shoulder. I wasn't a fighter back then. Had very few friends in High School. It was probably the best for me anyway. I graduated in more ways than one afterward.

I knew they were there but I never really considered myself part of "one" group. Had a lot of varied interests in high school, so I hung out with a lot of different kids. I do remember there were these two cliques....one was the kids involved in sports, the jocks, I guess, except girls were part of it too....and then the other was the artsy clique...the ones who were involved with drama and art....well, they didn't get along at all....the artsy group thought the jocks were all a bunch of dummies and the jocks thought the artsy ones were all a bunch of stuckup snobs. Being a drama nerd and a competitive swimmer and gymnast, kinda put me in the middle. Anyway, I wrote and produced our Senior class play and managed to get some of the jocks involved in the production...needed some big burly guys for some of the parts....the jocks actually could remember dialogue and the artsy ones turned out to be a pretty friendly bunch.

I was too shy and introverted to be a part of any clique. I guess not much has changed.

@Eddybear Thanks for the welcome. As far as moving the VWs, you weren't in Downingtown, PA on one summer night in 1973, at the "old farmers market" were you? My girlfriend and I parked my 71 Carmen Ghia Convertible, got out, two boys wanted to talk to us, but we blew them off. When we came out several hours later my car was parked horizonal instead of vertical.

@JaxBarb You are doing a great job here posting, and the more you do it the less shy you will be. Please feel really welcomed here, because you are.

Eddie not the vette tires?
Jaxbarb, next time ECS has a skit you have to come [and I see a N Fla skit on the horizon this fall, after miz and oneerie get here, with all the Jax area people]and mid Fla and So Fla. and georgia and the carolinas and ..........oh my!

I was never really in a clique I had a circle of friends but it was easy to get in or out of that circle, I guess tho I was accepted [tolerated] in most of the groups in my school.
But I'm telling you if you are the son of a baptist minister you really think you have to try harder!

well in high school i played the guitar and sang in a band .. had real long hair and looked like a hippy .. poked smot in the boys room .. but i was a pretty good basketball player too and boxed for the pal when i was younger so my reputation preceded me so the jocks accepted me and so did the heads .. and believe it or not i was in college prep courses so i had to interact with a lot of the intellectuals too .. i got along with all of em .. of course there were a few exceptions here and there and then it got ugly .. but it didn't usually last too long ..
