My first post

I am new to Eons and newer to this group. I wanted to see what people in the group are doing to keep in shape. How do you exercise? How do you eat?

Pass along any tips that you may have.

Since no one has replied, does that mean we're not exercising?

In the winter, I try to get to the Y several times a week and do their weight machine workout and attend several of the cardio classes. Now that summer has FINALLY decided to pay a visit to my part of the country, I've cut back on the Y and walk outside instead. Also get exercise mowing the lawn and gardening.

How about others out there? What do you do to keep active and agile?

Summer has Finally gotten to my part of the country also!(PA) I do a combination of walking, jogging, and a mixture of walking with sprints mixed in, running as fast as I can for 30,60,and 90 seconds with walking inbetween. My walking course is just over 4 miles which I do most days of the week. I also do strength exercises 3 days a week.

Wow! I like the way you mix it up. Roughly, how long does it take to cover the 4 miles? I like your routine and think I'll try it. Of course, I'll do good if I can make 1 mile to start with.

Walking only for the 4 miles takes 60min. Not all that fast. Adding in jogging and some sprints will cut the time to around 50 min. It's a beautiful course through an orchard. I do it year round. I'd like to join the local "Y" but find them to be to expensive just to use for cold weather. Maybe when I turn 65(Sept) I'll check and see if I can get a lower rate!!
The most important thing to do is "Just Start". Walking alone is great exercise.

Welcome to the group..
I belong to local hospital Wellness Center - not expensive since I receive a special discount as a hospital auxiliary volunteer - (pink lady). We have a program called Silver Sneakers and some medicare supplements will pay for this. I exercise with the group two times a week and walk on the treadmill almost every day. Since I live in the south (North Georgia) I walk about a mile early in the morning and listen to the birds sing. I lift my little hand weights while watching Jeopardy and stretch, stretch, stretch my arms and legs. This can be done sitting down. Since I'm 78 years old I don't worry about how fast I can walk a mile - I just "walk" it and enjoy it. Just keep moving
since the old "use it or lose it" adage applies here.

I like to walk in the mornings when I have the time. four miles is usually my minimum. During bad weather (and in winter) I try to get to the gym to do an upper body workout, or use the treadmill -- and relax in the steamroom as well.

I just bought a rebounder (trampoline) and love it. It's so much fun. Great for every cell in the body too. Body fluids move more efficiently because the millions of one-way valves of the veins in the cardiovascular system and in the lymphatic system are stimulated at the same time. Easy on the joints, good for the bones, etc....

Thanks for the rebounder post .... I have one that is tucked away. You've inspired me to get it out. Don't know why I put it away -- it is great fun!
