We just came home after taking a nice Sunday drive in my Husband's favorite toy, which is a 1978 Corvette. We go on a lot of trips in our family car because our children live in both Wisconsin & Florida. I'll be going on a long car drive for the first time with my daughter & 2 Grandsons in June. I'm flying to their home in FL & then we're going to return to our home in Indianapolis to visit with their Grandpa. I'm really excited about this experience.
Wow that sounds great Louiewood. I guess your daughter and her sons will be driving back by themselves then, or will you drive back to FL again, and fly home to grandpa? That will surely be an experience...
We would go on jaunts. When we got to a major intersection we would flip a coin to determine what direction we would head. In the afternoon we would stop and have a picnic lunch and then turn around and head back home.
We haven't done this as much since the cost of gas has gotten so high. When we were kids it was always walks that I remember not rides & my husband and I do that a lot Love in Christ Sharon
I remember, when I was young taking summer rides in the country with my family..Then we would either go to the A&W for supper or go to the Dairy Queen for an afternoon treat. My husband and I would take rides just anywhere on our days off. The last one we took was about a month before he died and we drove all around South Carolina. We just went east then north then west and south. It was a very pleasant trip. Now I travel to Vermont to see my family when I can. Short trips don't happen much anymore. As we all know times are a little tighter now..
I take rides now..don't always have a destination in mind, put just drive and see where it takes me. Can be fun, specially if it is a new area etc, discover new things to see.
With the gas going up again, one does have to watch, put you can't just stay in the house all the time either, cabin fever is real. For me anyway, drives me crazy to stay in to much, got to get out..... Happy Motoring Everyone...
2 days ago, I returned from an 700 mile (round trip) auto trip to Oklahoma.
This coming Saturday, I am flying to Des Moines, IA to meet with some friends. Then we are renting a car and heading to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. This will be my first long car trip in several years. I am looking so forward to it.
Rarely, do I take "drives" any more but sometimes, at dusk, will drive through one of the parks to watch the deer.
barbara70, That sounds like a lot of fun. What an adventure.
My daughter's husband will be in Minneapolis on a business trip the same week she'll be visiting with us & at the end of the week, he'll fly to Indianapolis & then drive home with the family to FL. I can't wait to go on this road trip from FL to IN with my daughter & grandsons. Evan is 6 & Henry is 3. I'm glad we're taking 2 days or more. Mary Lou
We have taken a few road trips over the years but for an afternoon/evening outing I'm like barbara, we take a drive through one of the local conservation areas and look for deer.
