At the end of this school year, I will get thetypical questionnaire to include, "do you wish to renew your employment for the next school year".
At age 64, I am done, I will check the "NO" box.
I love the kids, I truly do. Some of these kids are so bright yet I know the "system" won't give them the slack they need to excel. the typical "fit the box" BS just will kill their creativity.
I cannot stand the administration. Idiots, morons and mental defectives-who exactly is in charge of the insane?
I really can't deal with the parents, guardians, step mothers and step fathers, foster parents, that seem to change monthly. All think their darlings are all Einsteins, and of course the other extremes of never, ever seeing any of the above when I request a meeting to discuss a kid's progress.
I am tired of running out of paper, but the office memos never cease.
I am tired of the union.
I am tired of the cops at the front door-I feel school has become a prison.
I am tired of the budget and not knowing what happened to all the money.
I am tired of the nepotism-one more pf the mayor's daughters running the photocopy machine and I will strangle the dumb bitch.
Man o' man I must have awoken to the wrong side of the bed this morning! Sorry for the rant but I am burned out and I am done.
Am I alone here or what?
Best
Ricky
After making it this far with the year I've had, I think I can make it the last few weeks.
Rick - it is incredible that you have lasted to the age of 64! I have seen a change for the worse in the past 3-4 years. Parents who don't know how to parent and from day one believe the teacher is an enemy to be attacked. Nice role model for their kid. Enjoy your retirement!
Enjoy you retirement. I to have a parent that thought her child was gift to me. He is in a gang. (I three that I know of in a gang this year.) She has come in a complaint about some many times that I have lost count. This lives to be the center of attention and is now getting his way. He has to have seat up in the front of the room. He doesn't have his glasses, thousands excuse of why, none I believe. The parent finally came in last month and admit that he is giving them problems at home. I am lucky because my admintrator is supporting me. When he acts up now, I get to sent him to the office and then he goes to in school detention. Last week , I wrote up behavior issues and because he been in the office some many time either for in class room behavior on out he got one day suspesion. He did his best trying to talk me out of his suspesion. I held my ground. It was a very nice break with him out of my classroom for a day. I got some much done with the rest of my class. I felt like I finally got to teach and not be a "cop." (sorry can't spell tonight)

I know exactly what you're saying. I have not been able to teach or my well-behaved students learn most of this year. And I teach in a "nice rural district"! How things have changed! For the first time I have not been able to get through all the curriculum I'm supposed to teach. My students are being robbed of their right to a free education by a handful of disrespectful students who know they don't have to follow the rules and continue to disrupt the educational process. I wish the "good" parents would speak up instead of the administration always hearing pressure from the ones who support and enable their kids to be disrespectful and disruptive. Is this the future of public education?
I hope not. We are giving district assessments this week all week. Next Tuesday, we are giving our school common assessments. We just gave them the AIMS (state test) in April. The kids and teachers are done testing. I was off Friday so I could go back to my surgeon to check how my mouth is doing from my surgery (doing great) and I have a sub. Wonderful woman I will with her for six years. I miss working with her this year, she retire.. She have some problems but because she is "mean" I was left a note bad behavior, but my students decided that it was okay to act up in Art. They have never been so "bad" for her. I couldn't believe the note that I got from her. But it was mainly four boys who did it all. The same four boys that I have problems with in class and all I can do is follow the school discipline plan, call parents, then write then up so they can get after school detention, unless they are repeater, then they get Saturday school (detention). If I am lucky they get ISD, super lucky Out of school.
