You've Joined AES.....Now What?

It doesn't take long to know that some of our members have become friends in "real life" and you're the new kid on the block. So how do you go about becoming an active member without stepping on any toes?

Well, let's just say that our toes are tough! We try to treat one another with common courtesy and use good judgement in what we post and say. Most of the time we succeed in sharing ideas and opinions with one another without anything going wrong. Luckily, the vast majority of our members have a sense of humor and easygoing natures which make it easy to let people speak freely (but using the good judgement listed above) without management having to step in. Most people just instinctively set good boundaries for themselves.

So, unlike other groups where the reception is lukewarm and there's an obvious "in" crowd, here at AES we're anxious to add each and every one of you to our active membership. Don't be afraid to chime in, tell us what you think, try to make us laugh, share a concern, WHATEVER.

One great way to get started is to reply with a "thank you" to your personal welcome to the group. It will be titled "Welcome XYZ" or whatever your online name is. Replying gets your name listed within the post, and it makes it easier for members to look at your profile. If they see something interesting, it could spark contact and conversations....so spend a little time filling those profiles out!

My commitment to the group (I am the manager, and Lynaz and TooYoung2BeOld are the moderators) is that our group always be a safe place to gather on eons. This is a place to relax online and relax your guard a little. We're glad you joined us, and we look forward to getting to know you!

As you post and reply, you'll notice we shorten a lot of the names in some way. I'm usually referred to as HB, for example. Lynaz is usually shortened to Lyn, and TooYoung2BeOld is usually just "Too." If we shorten yours up, just know that it's the common practice in a lot of groups and this facilitates some of the slow-motion chats going on in some of the posts.

If you're concerned about more explicit "rules of the road," you will find that our moderator TooYoung2BeOld has a blog which has some suggestions for just about any type of post you'd like to do. If you go to her profile, and then to her personal blogs, you'll find it easily!

Send a pm to me or the moderators if you have any questions or concerns. We live in three different time zones, and all check in daily....sometimes several times a day.

Thank you for joining us, now be brave and speak up!!!
