Bigoo.ws is a HUGE graphics user community I've used off & on. They provide plenty of tools & utilities so you can get really creative. If you're in a hurry or just want to browse around, there are literally *tens of thousands* of graphics already there - it's easy to spend an inordinate amount of time looking around & playing with stuff :-) You can also upload & share your own graphics & receive feedback from the community. ** Keep in mind that because these are user-generated, you may run across the occasional item you won't like.
A really cool site I went to today (from the MakeUseOf.com e-newsletter) is Repper. Their intro says "Repper is a free-to-use pattern creator that turns your images into eye-catching designs. You can start playing right away: just upload an image and start dragging! We have even provided you with some samples images to get started with."
It lets you save your pattern as a 200x200px JPEG on your computer, or you can use a direct URL link or CSS code. Pretty handy!
It takes less than 5 minutes to generate *endless* patterns! Here's how easy it is --
I picked a picture with colors I liked.

Then I uploaded it to Repper, where a thumbnail of it appeared in the bottom-right corner. You'll notice a drag box with handles: drag the box around on the pattern, &/or change its size. Changing the drag box's size will affect how large or small the actual pattern is. This pattern-maker runs in real time, so you'll see exactly how the position or size of the box works as it gives you bazillions of new patterns. :-)

Here's the tile I saved by URL to Photobucket. If I'd resized the box to make it very small, the final pattern would've been coarser, instead of finely detailed like this.
