Banner Bash - Sharing how we make banners

Let's share how we've made banners so that some of the folks new to making banners can get some ideas. You can post banners you've used in the past or share a brand new one. The message box will automatically resize it to fit. Then, if you want, give a little information about how it was done. You're welcome to share any new banners you make after using someone's instructions, too. You can even make some new banners to be used by The Studio, LOL. Let's have some fun showing what can be done!

Some basics for those that are new:
The banner size for the profile page is 974 px wide X 100 px high. You can have a smaller picture that is 100px high and let it repeat if you want. The size for a banner for a group is 610 px by 100 px. Course, if you're making your own website, you can make your banner or logo whatever size you want.

See replies for examples.

You can use the help file rich64nv made to make an image with multiple images. view link www.eons.com/uploads/1/9/ 19403609_How_to%20create%20a%20banner% 20using%20multiple%20images%20in% 20Paint.html

This is one I made with all the individual images lined up without any space between:

The first and last part of the banner were made with Appleworks painting and drawing programs and have a white background. I also used Appleworks to add text to each of the other pictures that I'd resized to use. You could do the same thing with Microsoft Paint or another paint program.

This is so so in time for me. I will return later this evening and have a go at it. Thanks Mimi.

This is the first banner I made - before I knew about some easier ways. I'm using this banner and the "blue dot" background on my profile now.

I used Appleworks paint and drawing programs. Since I wanted the pictures to appear as if they floated, I used the same "blue dot" pattern as a background for the banner. (In the next reply, I show what I learned about making transparent images.)

I had created the individual pictures including the one at the beginning and at the end with the writing. Then I created a "paint document" that was 974 x 100 pixels. I added the individual pictures in order leaving a little space in between each one so that the blue dot background would show through.

You could use rich64nv's help file to create a banner with any background that you wanted just for the banner. Just fill the 974 x 100 image with the background first (with appleworks, you can choose a pattern and color and then use the fill bucket), then leave space between the individual pictures as you add them.

Great, Daffodil56! I bet you can come up with some neat examples, too, when you try out some of the different methods people use!

Then I learned a way to make the background of the banner transparent so that you don't need to try to match your background on your profile page. The following banner is transparent around the boxes and even the writing.

This has a colored background in a div to give you an idea of how the transparency works:

To make a banner that has some transparent spaces you can go to pixlr.com view link "Click on image editor." Then click on "Create a new image". A pop up box appears. Give your image a name and put in the size for the width and the height. (974 wide and 100 high for a Profile banner). Be sure to click in the box by transparent and then OK.

Upload the images that you want to put into the banner. Copy and paste them into the banner size image. Move it to where you want. Each time you paste in a new picture to the banner, a new layer will appear in the "layer" box. If you want to move an individual image (or text) later, click on the layer that contains that image (or text) and it will be selected. Then you can move it.

You can add text by clicking on the large A. Type what you want and choose the font, font size and font color from the top menu.

When you are through with your banner, click on "File --> Save" and be sure to save it as a png image from the selection box.

You can't do this with Appleworks, but you can do it with any graphics program that will save as a gif or a png. If you want to try making a banner with some transparency and need help, just give us a hollar.

Do you have another way to make some transparent banners or multiple image banners? What's you favorite method of making ANY banner? Is there an online banner maker you use? Feel free to share examples and tell us what you use!

I've had my computer now for about 7 years and have completely taught myself everything. I taught myself to use the Internet by going to the library before I had a computer. I blanked out their screens a few times but after a few tries I got it. Now I have my second, new and updated computer system.
I'm now learning Graphics and adding to pages.. thanks to Eons. I really didn't know where to begin before eons.
I've always learned just 'off the cuff'.. so I'm now out to learn to add my own banners to my profile page and 'Beyond!'. My limitations however are that I don't have any fancy system or programs in the drive of my computer.
I've taught myself alot about click, copy and paste which is what I usually do.. unless it won't work.. then I have to figure out what my next step will be. I have loads of patience and usually win the battle but there are times when I don't have a clue.. like now.
The banners I see are so very cool and I'm sure they are easy to accomplish. The big question for me is "How?"
Can someone give me a few pointers? I would really appreciate that.

There are some excellent web sites that will let you make your banner there, so you don't need to have any extra programs on your computer. However, most system packages will have some kind of basic graphic program, like MS Paint comes with MS Office.

The site Mimi58 referred to, pixlr, is totally online & you'd go there to make a banner. You take pictures you've collected & saved to your computer to pixlr.

Thank you Sylk!
After I posted here I went to the 'Studio Help Links' page. It gave me walk-through instuctions. I did what it said and changed my banner.
I'm sure there are many different avenues to travel in this area.. right? I copied and sent the instructions to my email home to print for future reference.
That was super easy. It could become very addictive for me. I love this sort of thing. I love doing graphics and changing things. I'm a real 'Newbe' at this so I have alot to learn. It's fun!

Thanks KaiS.. I'm going to check out your link too.. right now.

I like your new banner, rebel4life. And you are right, there are many different avenues to travel. The best way is to try out different methods and play around with what you can do with each one. If you run into a snag trying anything out, just post about what's giving you trouble.

That's a neat site for banners, KaiS. You can also make smaller graphics there for comments, too.

Here's a link to a post about using BannerFans that has an example of a banner made there: view link www.eons.com/groups/topic/1458231 There's some tips in the post for using the site, too, that may make it easier to use the first time.

Another online Banner Maker is the one at imagechef that Roseart shared in a past post: view link www.imagechef.com/ic/banner/ At this link, you can choose from some premade backgrounds and add your text. Kar57 made an image there that is being used as The Studio group's banner now. One problem is that you can't choose the size for the banner there, so you have to make a few adjustments to the size later. However, you could use the banner that is made there on your profile by centering it in the choices. It would just be shorter than the regular banner size.

They've added a new custom Banner Maker where you can upload your own image and add some symbols, if you wanted to. view link www.imagechef.com/ic/banner-maker/ I haven't tried it out yet, but it's another place to check out.
