shorter deployments

I was just reading an article that said deployments will be cut from 12 months to 9 months in about 2 years. And time at home will go from 12 months to 24-27 months. If interested, you can read the article here

I saw it at usmilitary.about.com.

Of course one never knows what will happen in two years time, but I think this is encouraging.
Hi Sandie! This will be soo much better for the troops....I hope they get it implemented, and follow through with it!!! Thanks for posting it!!
Is your son doing better? Did he get his certification on his Ait? I hope so....
Been off and on my pc the last 2 days(bad weather) and might have missed some posts!!
Hugs,
Marilyn

I hope this goes thru, too. Patrick was telling me that his deployment wasn't going to be 12 mos but 18, that there would be no point in bringing a new group in when his unit is supposed to be escorting folks out.

Hmm. I hope the article is not just rhetoric to appease the public but they actually follow through.

Marilyn, son has a briefing tomorrow (Thursday). Won't know anything more until then.

Forgot to update... Son went for his briefing and was told they did not have his paperwork. He went back to the clinic to find out what was going on. They FORGOT to send his MEDICAL records to his MEDICAL briefing. ... There are no words for this kind of ineptitude. They only do this on Tuesday and Thursdays so he will be back there on Tuesday. He's been there almost 8 months now. Three of those as an AIT holdover.

Gosh Sandie - I hate to ask "can it get any worse" - all of it the whole damn things, sounds like a violation of civil rights and at the very least the typical snafu and we all know what that means.

We'll keep praying for Ben, and that this is resolved in hopefully record time (which could be another year according to what's gone on before)

Oh Sandie,
I know you and Ben must be totally frustrated with this situation. I only pray it will be straightened out on Tuesday so Ben can be on his way home to his family. And before it gets hotter than hell in OK.

It's already pretty hot there during the days according to son, but he had gotten used to it being so cold. And he was in a bay with no a/c - which is a piddling complaint given what some of our guys are going through. This past week he did have a/c but no cell reception. When they move him next week I don't know what he will have. He is moved almost every week. That should change later in the month when they change over to the four man apartments. I hope so. And I hope these new bays (actually refurbished bays) are comfortable since who knows how much longer he will be there. His discharge is by no means assured. To my knowledge, no one but possibly a clinic doctor (and I'm not sure about that) has yet signed any paperwork.
