Pontiac

As you may have heard, it is the end of Pontiac Motor Division as of today.

Although all you GOAT lovers and Firebird lovers just gainedin equity as well as Oaklands, Star Chiefs, and so many other great cars, I lament the passing of the cars that brought "excitement".
My wife's 2007 G6 mechanical hardtop/convertible is great fun to drive.
Will it reappear as a Chevy product next year??

Ricky 4 Camaros, and 1 Firebird, with a strong desire for one more before I die. Biggest regret-not keeping them all.

I owned a '70 Catalina 2dr hardtop many years ago. That boat was a really sweet cruzin' machine. And I set in one of the G6 retractable hardtops the other day while the sales gal ran the top thru it's paces for me. Pretty cool! Took me back to the days when I specialized in repairs to the hideaway tops in 60s Lincolns and T-birds!

I clearly remember my Dad's Catalina with a 421, I think they called them 2+2. It flew!
I certainly remember the Ford 1956 "Starliner"(?) with the mechanical roof as well!
My wife's G6 is quite the car. That hydraulic system works incredibly well but I wouldn't want to be the guy that has to fix them. Pretty cool the way the little side flaps slide out and in on the bonnet/top cover!

The Ford retractables were '57 - 58 & 59. They're quite a marvel to watch. I'd buy one of those G6 jobs if we could afford the $34K price tag!

Make an offer,
$34,000 is wishful thinking!

For that price, you can uy an SS/RS Camaro with 400+ HP and a sun roof!

I sure hope I am not making anyone angry here, for this is not my intent. We gave up on new cars way back in 88 when the cars all went corporate. You couldn't give me a new car, never mind pay the astronomical prices they are getting for them today. Sorry but I just don't think the cookie cutters of today's market made out of plastic and glue are anywhere close to the value of the precious metal sitting in our driveway. The "newest" car we have is a 93 Silverado extend cab, and that one still belongs to our son, he bought a new Dodge truck a couple of years ago and uses his old truck for the dirty jobs, and leaves it here for Mike and I to use. So the newest car that we actually own is my 83 Regal! My daily driver is a cream puff 77 Chevrolet Caprice, and then there is the apple of my Husband's eye. Kool Kat our 66 Pontiac Catalina.

Just my two cents.

I saw a G8 the other day - what a great looking car! I hope they rebadge it as a Chevy, I'd seriously take a good hard look at it.

Carrie -- I all but gave up on new cars, too. I drive a 1999 Acura CL that has 128,000 miles on it. In the garage is my 1957 Chevy that has 95,000 miles on the odometer. Up north is my 1995 Miata with 110,000 miles on it. I went through a period where I leased new cars for the entire family -- at one point I had four leases going at the same time, plus two or three other cars. No longer, I'm trying my best to stay out of new car showrooms - I have a sickness, I can't walk out of one without a new car! One year I leased or bought five new cars from the same dealership - boy, did they like me!

My next new car might be a truck -- GMC or Chevy. Wish someone would make one that is fuel efficient and tough, 10k towing capacity for example. But for now, I think I'll find a good used one and drive the Acura until it falls apart.

Yes, 'tis a sad day for Pontiac. However, those of you who own one can count on the value going up, eh? And yes, I cannot stand the newer cars. I was thrilled when I found my (then 13-years old) 1991 Mercedes 190e in great condition with low mileage. All those fancy electronics on the newer cars (yes, I realize mine has more than it's share!) are just waiting to malfunction and need an expensive repair. Cars don't need computers, just a good mechanic. But now that they all have them, we need to go to a computer repair shop to get our cars fixed. Uck. (I miss my 1977 MGB!)
