Message 6 of 43

Hi All.

I'm new to this group, but don't think I will have any trouble finding something to talk about.

Reading some of the previous messages, it seems that I am not alone in the "age appropriate" boat. I'm 54 and my muffin top doesn't look good in the clothes of today; especially these "low" rise jeans. Jeez!

The flip side of this: I work at Bon Worth, which is a retail clothing store that caters to the more mature woman. No thanks, I don't want to look like my grandmother. So, where does everybody go for clothes???

I shop at consignment stores alot. I also like Dots for some things, although it is a teenage store. I have found scoop neck hip length t-shirts there so loaded up on them in just about every color. They look good and don't make me look like I'm trying to be a kid lol.

Oh, that's a good idea luneib. There's a Dots near me, so I'll go look there for some stuff.

I've been to many websites for clothes, trying to find the pants that I want. It's annoying when the only ones that are made to sit at waist level, have straight legs. I'm being picky but I know what I want and I'm gonna get it, by george!!

Thanks again for the idea.

Fashion Bug has a GREAT line of pants, (Right Fit, I think is the name of it?) in 3 proportion cuts: Straight (less than 10" difference btw. the waist and hip), Average "misses" (about 10" btw. waist/hip) and Curvy (more than 10" diff btw. waist/hip). They are FABULOUS. I am very straight and until these babies, pants were usually too big in the hip and thigh if I bought them to fit my waist. My friend is the opposite of me--very curvy and they were the first pants she'd found that didn't gap at the waist to fit her hips. The only thing is, they have a non standard sizing system, so you have go by your measurements if you're buying online. They have a special measuring tape at the store (that measures your pants size, not inches, so no embarrassement!) to find your correct size. They come in Misses and Plus sizes, in petite, avg. and tall. They come in straight and flare styles, jeans and dress.

As to "muffin top": The shirts that gather gently under the bust are very flattering to most figures (no they don't make you look pregnant) and they take care of camoflaging that belly bulge very nicely.

I LOVE Ann Taylor Loft's clothes (I am 52). They have pants in different waist heights too. I like the lower waisted pants--I just make sure to wear a long enought top so I'm not showing any skin. I have a well exercised booty, so I don't mind showing it a little, though,

Lots of women like Cold Water Creek, too, although their pants don't work so well for me and all their pants and skirts are LONG, even the petite length skirts are very long. I like to show a little leg, myself.
