I would be very careful about taking Hormones without first consulting a practitioner. Melatonin is over the counter and if it works, great!
Rickydale, what is your advice on this?
HGH is sold in health food stores in 25mg. strength. Of course, one of the side effects in women could be unwanted facial hair so I have stayed away from it so far.
I stopped having periods, took 1 month of HGH and been having periods every since. I stopped it but it really thru me backwards. I now deal with daily migraines, head pressure and neck tension, this never ever goes away. I take a half of Imitrex a day, or I can't function. All from peripause, so wierd.
I also am very short with the kids and irritable, groucy, you name it. Can't wait till it's over.
Yes, Joan, taking something like that can confuse your body. For pre menopause and menopausal symptoms, herbs work much better. I know you are sensitive to teas, so you might want to consult someone about what is best for you. We have some professionals in this group, I hope they see the message and respond.
I am tired of the awful hot flashes and ect. I am going to send a
saliva sample in to have a hormone check done and then get what
ever I need to feel human again.
I did get good results with Paraplex for my gland problem maybe I
be just as lucky this time.
Everyone will have different solutions to their issues because all of us have different physiologies. I'm sensitive to dairy products, & when a doctor had me change my diet, a lot of my issues resolved themselves, like severe PMS & such. When the doctor I go to now increased my vitamin D3 & iodine, things further improved. Recently, he added a supplement called Lauricidin to my diet (for immune dysfunction) & things are getting even better. I wasn't getting enough sleep - who knew that would make such a difference? I use a supplement containing melatonin, theanine & a couple of herbs like hops in it at bedtime. Then there's exercise, a big help. But this is for me; it may work differently for others.
It's necessary to work with someone who can help you keep track of your own personal issues. I've watched women suffer from hot flashes & it looks like hell to me. Personally, I've never had one & had a relatively peaceful menopause, for which I thank God, considering some of the other issues I've had to deal with. But avoiding chemical additives, using natural soaps, shampoos & perfumes, eating organic as much as possible & avoiding too much in the line of sweets (I don't deprive myself, but do limit them) has made my life turn around.
I have been taking DHEA for quite a while now and it works really well for me. I only take 25mg.
Here's a male experience...
About 5 years ago my "free testosterone" levels were low and my Endocronologist suggested I try the Testosterone supplement... Androgel. My total Testosterone was well within normal range, but the "free" was low. I had tried several herbal/natural approaches with little impact.
Reason for use: I had a terrible time with muscle soreness as well with out symptoms of low testosterone.
The problem: after 9 months of therapy my Testosterone levels dropped in half to below normal. My body had reduced production of Testosterone! It was relying on the daily use of Androgel! My Doctor wanted to double the dosage! I said, NO WAY!
The Doctor was experimenting with me WITHOUT my approval! Reason I know this is when I spoke to the manufacturer of Androgel they told me it was not intended to lift Free levels.
Bottom line: I wasted money and time, but saw no benefit nor noticeable harm from the use. I would take care and ask lots of questions before using these powerful drugs.

I've been taking hormones for quite a few years. Belive me, the risks far outweigh the probles I had without them.
NO! They have been proven to cause cancer!
I had the worst hot flashes for years and for several months before they stopped altogether they got even worse! But they stopped (thank you, God) and I lived through it. Brought a hand held or table top fan and a water spray bottle with me everywhere I went, stood where there was a fan, showered several times a day (to no avail), used ice packs and cold, wet towels all over my sweaty, naked body when appropriate, of course.
THIS TOO SHALL PASS! Good luck ;-)
