Posting Code in Eons Message Box

Since we will be playing with code tomorrow, thought it might be a good time to remind everyone about the easy ways to convert code so it can be posted in message boxes. This way, you'll be able to share the code that you use and we won't have to hunt it down with "view --> page source"!

The Studio was started last October. It wasn't long before we were wanting to paste code in messages. Enter HJ and mbotos with solutions! All you have to do is use the converters that change some of the code into character entities and you can paste the conversion into a message box and it will post the code. How easy!

This is a link to a message converter that mbotos made: view link www.botos.com/eons/convert_04.html

And here is a link that HJ recently shared to another great converter. view link www.wtv-zone.com/phyrst/ece/encoder.html

You can also use an HTML editor like Kompozer or SeaMonkey to do the work.

Don't worry. I have a flash movie showing you how easy it is to use each one. See the replies for the movies. You have to supply your own popcorn, though!

This movie shows getting the convered code using Kompozer, but you could use SeaMonkey or another HTML editor just as easily. Just write the code in regular view and then go to "source view" to get the conversion. Eons message box likes everything in one long line, so you'll see me putting the cursor at the front of each of the lines in the source view and using delete to get everything on one line.

Also, here are the instructions from the original post that mbotos gave us about using an HTML editor with Eons.

You find out more information about Kompozer and SeaMonkey in the Scrolling Directory.

Have Fun!

mbotos's directions from the original post didn't come through in the last reply so here they are:

Also, here are the instructions from the original post that mbotos gave us about using an HTML editor with Eons.

So here are the steps in my solution.

1] Write your post in your favorite HMTL editor.
2] Preview on your PC
3] cut and paste to the POST input box
4] PREVIEW on Eons
5] click EDIT.... BUT
6] make any changes/corrections, etc. in your HTML editor
7] then re-cut & paste over whatever got returned in the Eons editor
8] then go straight to POST
9] this isn't a 100% solution, but it will cut some of the frustration and get you closer to the way it should be!!

Don't use HTML list items. Eons really messes them up.

Now you've got all kinds of choices for ways to paste code! It's great to be able to share!

Thanks, MaryTake5. Playing with Jing is pretty simple - except my desktop is too old to use it and my laptop touchpad is aggravating. I keep forgetting to hook up my mouse to the laptop until I'm already going - LOL!

I posted the original, and mbotos copied it and added the pop-up that shows how it is going to look, he also added the red text, to show the converted code. Then put it on his server, good thing he did, because right after it went public, they took the original off-line.
What I have found since then is using firefox you can have, the tool on your computer, that will work off-line or on-line,
1)while looking at the site FILE>Save Page as > Web Page complete> pick a folder, > book mark that folder, name it> now you have it..
this will also work with some other tools.
