There are many different kinds of banners. What is the purpose of your banner? Will it be in a procession, is it for a party, is it for a front lawn, is it religious, for a team, what??
I checked this out and think I can give you a good place to start, once I understand what kind of banner you need.
What type of "banner" are you talking about? Is it for a web page?? something like I have on this page:
view link on my genealogy page? I've done them for many things....
Yes, a banner for my group or web page. Sorry, I didn't make that clear.
You can start with a photo that will still look nice when edited to the following size:
Profile banner size is 974 X 100
Group banner size is 610 X 100
Editing can be done in Photobucket or with a Photo Editing program on your computer.
For this group, I went to www.cooltext.com and created a banner, saved it to my photos in Eons, and then put the link in the Banner section of our group. That is probably the easiest way to do it!
Here’s one possibility, I’m not certain this code will work for a group banner, but it should, it works in messages. Just replace my http and type the text you want. You can change the border color and font color too.
Here's the code
<center><br /><div style="width:480px; border: 10px double; border-color: blue; background-image: url(http://www.geocities.com/bobgrout/ blinkingstars.gif);"><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold; font-style:italic;"><big><big><big><big><span style="color: white;">Place your text here
</span></big></big></big></big></div><br /></div><br /></center>
THANK YOU EVERYONE. At least now I'll know where to begin. I'll give it a try.
I've made group identification banners since eons started allowing the groups to identify themselves in such an interesting way. If you have a graphic application or photo application allowing you to add type, the process is relatively simple if you have had some experience doing layers.
first open the application (in this case Photoshop) select file new and enter in the 610 pixels long by 100 pixels wide and select 300 pixels per inch. click save, and name it groupbanner
Open a new window with your image /photo, select all, copy and paste it onto the groupbanner page then resize it accordingly. save it again. then close the other window of your photo, (do not save that one as you did nothing so why bother)...
In the tools, click on the text tool, and before you click onto the banner window, make sure you've selected the font, the color of your text and the size (36 pt is average but you can always lengthen or shorten it). Insert the text tool (click it where you want the text) and type in the Group's name. You can then move it left, right up down etc by using the selection (black arrow) tool.
Now very important... under "Layer" in the top menu, select "rasterize type"... then again in "Layer" select "merge visible". Save it again, then a simple "save it for the web" as a jpg and you're almost done.
Now comes the Eons part... you have to add this to your OWN profile photos first. simple enough. Then you have to go to your group and add it to the "group photos". Still simple enough. Now the last part which is a little tricky... click on view all the groups photos (by newest) and you'll see 3 little boxes beside the banner you just posted one of them says make this the group banner. Do so, refresh the page and viola!

If you go to The Eons Art School and look at that banner, it's actually 2140 pixels wide and 320 pixels deep and fills in the entire space unlike the banner used for this group. I suggest then going to the Book Illustrators group. Those dimensions are the same as the Art School banner.
