GOOD KILLS

“I’ve seen it all in my brief and pointless life—here a good person cut down in the middle of doing good, there a bad person living a long life of sheer evil. So don’t knock yourself out being good, and don’t go overboard being wise. Believe me, you won’t get anything out of it. But don’t press your luck by being bad, either. And don’t be reckless. Why die needlessly? It’s best to stay in touch with both sides of an issue. A person who fears God deals responsibly with all of reality, not just a piece of it.” (Ecclesiastes 7:15-18, The Message Bible)

We all know evil kills and we all try to be good. We teach our children to be good children. We try not to swear, watch inappropriate shows, etc… We all want to be good. When we get right down to it the moral fiber that runs through out our lives and heritage is not a bad thing there is just one problem.
Often Christians like you and me get attached to the good in life and not the God that rules over our lives and it drains you of life. We attach ourselves to the promises, to the healing, to the church, to our faith; to whatever we think will get us through. We are living in The Kingdom but what good is the Kingdom if we have forgotten the King! What good are our prayers and our songs and sermons if we run around all week long in the Kingdom doing good things all the while forgetting about the King? Loving ‘good’ and not the God who loved you first will kill you! Saul was the poster child for this behavior, he was tall handsome and a great military leader and leader in general! God gave him victory after victory and all that goes with it, the spoils of war! The prophet comes along and says God wants you to go and win this battle with him and do one thing different take nothing away from this no spoils! Saul wins and he takes just select things! Well the prophet says, “what have you done?” For this disobedience your line will not rule Israel ever again! And so it was the Saul lost the most important thing to him the ability to have a generational line of kings from him the first! He did good and worked fro the Kingdom but forgot who the King is and broke his trust with Him!

It's my feeling that the bad is allowed to occur for the growth of humanity. It illustrates the results of being out of touch with the Teachings of God. It challenges us to discipline ourselves by strengthening our higher, spiritual nature, so we don't fall succumb to the inclinations of our lower, materialistic nature. Since I am the only one I have any control over, perhaps the best response for me is to be the best person I can be. We can change the world, one heart at a time, beginning with our own. And we are challenged to try to help find real solutions in the the real world.

But perhaps the most important purpose for allowing evil in the world is to help us realize that our REALity isn't physical, but rather spiritual. Our material body will be left behind, but the rest of our eternal existence is in the spiritual world.

"O Thou servant of God! Do not grieve at the afflictions and calamities that have befallen thee. All calamities and afflictions have been created for man so that he may spurn this mortal world-- a world to which he is much attached." ~Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha

Your point is well taken, Bigedvoi. Attaching ourselves to empty forms is fruitless. We must embrace, live, and breathe the Spirit.
