Anyone remember?

In the 60s on the US cars- I saw the plastic tail lights had the year of the car molded into the lens cover. It seems that the year may nave been the prior year so you had to add a year to get the year of the car it was on? Anyone remember that?

Of course in no time I didn't need to look at tail lights, I could tell every US made auto at a glance.

I've dealt with alot of old car parts and I've never come across that quirk. Now, there WERE some years where the same lens carried over thru several years. These lenses would still wear the year of their debut, in spite of recurrent years of use.

Heh - here's a little detail about taillight lenses that trips up assuming sorts. Besides the two-digit year designation, taillight lenses often carried the letters STDB STB or STD. I've seen such lenses advertized as being STUDEBAKER lenses because of these letters. What they really stand for is something like Stop/Tail/Directional or some combination thereof.

Yes, that is funny. Now that you mention it there were some carry over years that I remember. I had a 61 chevy at the time and a friend had a 60- Now I'm gonna have to go re-look at every 60s car I see or I will go crazy (er).

Thanks for taking the time.
