Vicky Christina Barcelona

Vicky (Rebecca Hall), Christina (Scarlett Johansson), Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) and Maria Elena (Penélope Cruz) are all involved in a Woody Allen love tangle. Beautiful! Cruz got an Oscar, but the other three actors also deserved an award. And Woody deserves one too! view link

I just watched this through Netflix. There was a very very very long wait which just indicates its popularity.

I agree Bernie that all were noteworthy/Oscar worthy.

It is appropriately described as a "quirky romantic dramedy."

Scarlett Johansen is proving to be quite a versatile actress.
Penelope Cruz is both a great beauty and a great actress. I believe she particularly loves doing character roles.
Woody still has that special "WOODY" touch and ear for dialog/conversation. It is all about conversation.

The plot/storyline feels as if it is a true story he/Woody heard about within his circle of friends and is just relaying it on to us.

In some ways its a big big story and in others it is just what happened one summer in Barcelona before they went on with their lives.Something they'll always remember and probably discuss mostly with each other when they occasionally have a "girls' outing.

Has anyone else seen this?
I hope to hear your thoughts soon.

Yes, I loved it too. Woody Allen can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned.

It was hard for me to even look at Bardem after he played the ruthless killer in my unfavoritest movie that won all the awards. It was so brutal, I can't even remember the name....Do you remember the title?

"No Country for Old men" He was great! And it is hard for an actor to be type cast. (And one role bleeds into the next.) But you have to forget the last movie when you watch this one. He is great here too!

OOH! I didn't see this.

I liked him much better in this. It is easy to play a steely killer. Not much emotion crosses ones face. But, I fell in love with Bardem in this movie--he was very seductive. And I loved the way he made his desires seem so perfectly normal. And the menage--well--of course Cristina was what was missing in their marriage. It made perfect sense, lol.

Excellent.

But to me, Cruz was the star of this film. Anna Magnani would have been very proud of her.

I had that problem with "Love in the Time of Cholera" - maybe that is why when watching this movie I was able to forget his "No Country For Old Men" role.

Maybe not! But they might be tying a knot. It is so hard to keep up with these celebrities....

Sounds like a good one. I'll put it on my Netflix list.

Penelope Cruz is so amazing. She plays an absolutely nutty character in this film, but you have to love her because she does it so well. ( I bet if she is with Bardem in real life, she never saw him in "No Country"....) That terrible, brutal killer with the pageboy haircut gave me nightmares for a week.

Remember the ending of "No Country"? He got away with murder and went on, to probably kill again. One of those unresolved movie endings that just drive you crazy.
