Dry Mouth Syndrome

You hear a lot about "Dry Mouth Syndrome" these days. Does anyone know just what causes it and if there is a natural cure for it?

Many medications cause it. I use Biotene Toothpaste and mouthwash, that helps a lot. I don't think there is a cure..it's not that bad..!

I get dry mouth because I use a cpap machine when I sleep, which is kinda goofy because it keeps my mouth shut. It has a humidifier, but I still keep a bottle of water on my night stand. I'll have to try the Biotene mouthwash.

Biotene is available everywhere, including Wal Mart, where the price is the best. It's expensive, but it has healed my mouth. If you read the literature on the toothpaste, it heals receding/bleeding gum's, which can cause tooth loss. I recommend the tooth paste and the mouthwash, together. They also make a gel that will help ( you leave it in your mouth), but that doesn't heal the gums. It's part of aging, too...

Evening Primrose Oil has sometimes been helpful in stimulating the production of saliva which is controlled primarily by the parotid gland. The TMJ (Tempero-Mandibular Joint or jaw) is sometimes a factor in decreased saliva production, and sometimes protomorphogen therapy for the parotid and /or other glands has proven to be helpful. Protomorphogen therapy is slightly different from other glandular extracts because of the patented process used by Standard Process Labs which preserves the D.N.A. materials which serves as an instruction manual to the tissues about how to rebuild itself.

Thank you Rickydale. I have had TMJ in the past, and am not sure which came first in my case. I have noticed, though, that my dry mouth has subsided quite a bit with regular use of the Biotene, and also taking high quality Fish Oil supplements at a higher dose, which was recommended by my Naturopath for joint mobility. The side effect was a not so dry mouth!

I just started using Biotene toothpaste and already have noticed an improvement. It leaves my mouth a little salty tasting but that's ok. I heard dry mouth can be caused by medications, certain foods and just plain aging. I would also like to try the mouthwash for further improvement. My thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
