Church doors open 24/7/365

I remember when we were young, the nuns telling us that the doors were open round the clock so that people could come pray in the Sanctuary whenever they needed a place of solace, refuge or prayer. Was/Is it that way in your part of the country? Sadly, (due to vandalism) here in California, the Church doors are no longer open around the clock. (Of course, I know Jesus is w/us 24/7/365 and He makes His Home in us, but there was something special about people who did not have faith being able to go into the Church and finding the presence of God there ...)

Do your churches keep their doors open in this day and age?

In our church the doors are open for visits to the Blessed Sacrament up until after our evening Mass. Also there are churches in our city that are open for perpetual adoration. In the several months before my dad passed on to our LORD I'd pick him up and we'd go to Mass at noon everyday then we'd go to another church to visit the Blessed Sacrament, then we'd have lunch. I am so very glad that he and I shared that time.

No, the doors are not open all the time. Actually there was an attempted break-in a few years back and they damaged our beautiful wooden doors. Of course, they were fixed, but what a shame. Also in other States that I have lived in there were robberies. Think of it, the tabernacle holds gold chalices and in many churches the candle stick are gold. Something worth stealing for those who don't care WHAT they are taking.

Even though St. Patrick's is an inner city church, its doors are open all day. They are locked at night until the 6:45 A.M. Mass.

As an interesting side note, our sexton unlocked the sacristy doors at the rear of the church early so we altar boys could get in in time to prepare for the first Mass of the day. Who knows what time the sexton got up from his bed.
