Path Tool (Bezier Selector)

The Path tool (previously known as Bezier Selection) is a powerful tool in GIMP. The rectangle- and ellipse-selections are not very flexible if you happen to need something more special. And since many of us GIMPers don't have a graphics tablet, it's not so easy to make the mouse pointer move the way you want. The paths can solve the problem by using smooth mathematical curves instead of your own shaky mouse trail.

From the Tool Options box it looks like we have a few new things to learn. I am anxious to see what this tool can do for me.

The following video is pretty good, the voice is delayed so the action on the screen happens first then the voice happens, had to get use to the delay.

This video shows how to draw shapes with the Path Tool, there was no Part Two.

The actual Path Tool information starts at minute marker 1:45. He also explains the Stroke Path feature. I suggest that you create a white image and follow along with the instructor, pausing and go back when needed.

Well I played with the path tool and bezier curve and was able to take the Simpson Bold font and design my own font using the tool. The aqua color ~gJ is my finished logo, the brown was my results after fabricating the font and the black shows how I used the bezier selector to make nicer curves on the "J" http://home.mchsi.com/~gjs_webpage/gj_logo2.jpg and remove some of the jagged area.

The instructor in the Gimp video tutorial "Basics-part 1" also uses the path tool in the "cutting with tansparency" portion of the "Big Seven".
