Cheese, cheese, wine, and more cheese
We're off to Bordeaux next month, to visit friends and check out a couple of new additions to my wine tours. My husband orders the cheese plate in place of dessert regualrly when we're in France, and we make a point to try one or two new cheeses each visit. We're probably up to 35 out of the 350+ different cheeses in France! Then there's the wines.... Pre 9/11 and the security changes, we used to load our carry on bags with various wines we'd tried and couldn't resist buying. The past few trips we've just had to drink it while there, as shipping or checking it it in luggage was expensive and a risk. This time, I have a small padded wine carrier, and will pack that within my suitcase. Hopefully the 4 bottles will survive intact.
Here in the U.S. we're also blessed now, as my mother in law in Maryland is beginning to make/sell goat cheeses. We've tried everything from fruit & nut spreadables, brie & camembert styles, feta, ricotta, etc... and haven't found any we didn't like. When we go there, the signs you see people on street corners holding "Will work for food" are very true of us!!
