School Days......

Does anyone remember the school uniforms?
The boys wore short pants until the age of 11. Then they were big kids and got to wear long pants.

The girls wore gymslips, ours had a sash that was the colour of the "house" we were in.

We wore large navy blue knickers under them. They were worn for gym instead of shorts.

The boys' uniforms are adorable with the dark sox and shoes. That is a very
English look.

They're all adorable. Wholesome healthy looking kids the lot of them.

I bet those uniforms took some work to keep fresh and crisp everyday, especially for the boys. Their mothers must have washed and ironed constantly. I love the look of them though.

Believe me, schoolboys are all the same....little buggers. They may look all innocent in their uniforms but once school is out they are rowdy and into everything. These days though I am sure its straight home to the tele and video games.

I bet you are right about that. Sad isn't it. I am glad I grew up when I could head to the woods after doing my chores. our grand kids are missing out on a lot.

The only reason I did my homework was so I could go outside, too. I ran
barefoot outside through the clovers on my way to play ball, blaze a trail in the woods,
slide down a ditch, climb a tree, ride my bike...I think I wore shoes when I had to but if I got stung by a bee it was more of a badge for me being the tomboy and all. I absolutely hated when my folks called us indoors for dinner. Who needs to eat??

It was cool growing up like that.

Actually I haven't changed at all. I only write bills and do housework so I can play outside.
"Oh gee, I have to do the yard again! Good grief!" ;-) ;-)

Now you English boys, is this what you looked like? All cute and rosey cheeked with caps and nobbly knees?

Our uniforms were just like the picture above, though the blazer was black with red piping and a red lion badge on the pocket. On entering the 6th form, the red piping was removed. I wore shorts until I was 14 and over 6 feet!

Haverfordwest Grammar

This was my old school (on the left), at the turn of the century, but was exactly the same when I went. It was founded in 1488 and was one of only two public schools in the whole of Wales. It ceased to be a grammar/public school in 1978 when it became the Tasker Milward Comprehensive School under the 'new' education system.

Haverfordwest Grammar School

It was an all boys school but right next door, literally, was Taskers, an all girl school. Our yard overlooked theirs. Alot of watching was done. It also ceased to be when the Tasker Milward Comprehensive School came into being.

Yes our classrooms were segregated as well. The boys had their own playground all through our school days. When we were in our teens though the boys learned to sneak out the back of the playing fields and meet girls behind the hedge. Hehe.....................I think the watching was sort of fun.
