Hello and welcome. We are always happy to see a new face ... er.... keyboard.
"I'm a combo of Platonism & Aristotle"
?????
I'm an Aristotelian realist, but in his "Metaphysics" & "Nicomachean Ethics" he gets involved in the levels of soul (in the NE also of love, which I had to translate in a course). At that point, I think Plato adds to the flavor of the stew with his more idea-listic view of reality. The spiritual is a higher level of reality. I'm not a Bishop Berkelian where everything is Idea; I'm too realistic for that, and I'm certainly not a Hume-ian. I think Descartes and all after him are way out in left field or screwy. At basis, I guess you could call me a dualist.
I guess you could call me an Existentialist with a Buddhistic flair, tinged with a taint of the dreaded Objectivism, and overlaid with a love of the absurd.
The NE speaks primarily of Friendship. Isn't translating 'philos' as "love" misleading, especially since the word that gets translated as 'love' throughout Plato is 'eros'.
Again, I do not understand how "an Aristotelian realist" and Plato's "more idea-listic view of reality" fits together.
"The spiritual is a higher level of reality? What do you mean by "spiritual"? For Plato and Aristotle, it is REASON (nous) that accesses "true" reality, not something called "Spirit". In fact, the word in the Republic often translated as "spirit' is 'thumos', which has mnore the flavor of our "passion" or "emotion".
Finally, " guess you could call me a dualist.", then why do you think Descartes is "way out in left field or screwy"
I'm a Taurus.
Oh--sorry--wrong group.
I'm outta my league on this one, bye...
