As a new member, I just want to say, "Hi everyone!" I've been working with clay for 30+years, as a hobby. Large slab and coil hand built pots are my passion, although I'm experimenting with some other ideas right now. I don't use a potter's wheel, partly because I've never been very good at centering the clay, and partly because I enjoy the feel of working the clay with my hands. The building of the piece is my favorite part of the process. I usually turn on some Oldie Goldie music and get lost in my clay. I use commercial glazes and an electric kiln. Have always wanted to try pit firing. Enjoyed playsnmud's information regarding pit firing in a 50-gallon iron drum.
I've sold some of my pieces at Christmas craft fairs or to people who have seen my work. Now that I'm retired, I taught elementary school for 30 years, I am able to spend more time with my pottery and would like to eventually take a few pieces in to some local art galleries to see if they'd be interested in my work.
Am looking forward to sharing back and forth.
