Using Animated Gifs Stored on Eons

animated gifFor those of you who didn't know, there is a way to store animated gifs on Eons and link to them.  But, you can't just upload them to an album and use the embed code.

Eons automatically changes the gifs to jpgs in the embed code and puts them at a fixed size. The embed code uses the link to the jpg. So, the embed code won't work. Bummer.

However, the gif is in the "My Photos" section and you can link to it with the direct URL and img tags. (I just stumbled across this trick recently when working with some images) More information in the first reply.

Those who know how to code already have the information you need. Use the direct URL and img tags. The following is just more explanation:

When you upload the gif, it goes to the place where all the photos are stored (the My Photos section) and it goes in as a gif. No one can access this particular section but you - and, I guess, Eons.

To get to this section, go to your photo center and click on "My Photos" (at left under round Eons symbol)

My Photo section will open and look pretty much the same as any album view. Note the title "My Photos" and the message under it:

Now you know where all your photos go. It doesn't matter which album you put them in or whether it is in group photos or your photo center - they all go here.

However, Eons changes the embed code to reflect a jpg with a fixed size - no matter whether you go to the advanced sharing options from the My Photo section, a group photo files or your photo center.

The image below is the embed code with a purple dot and the direct link with a green dot copied from the "advanced sharing" option.The red lines are shown around the linking tags in the embed code.:

The linking code has been deleted for this screen shot and red lines are around the "img source that was in the embed code (purple dot). Notice the suffix in "img src" - _619w.jpg

This is the image code without a URL (purple dot) and the URL that is going to be used (green dot):

And here is the img tags with the direct URL placed in the img tag:

So, upload your animated gif. But use the direct URL in image tags and not the embed code.

Have Fun!

Thanks Mimi, I'll have to go over this a time or two to get it to sink in this brain of mine! Your explanation is as simple as it can get. It's just this brain of mine! LOL

Just put the direct link into the img code:

<img src="PUT DIRECT LINK HERE" />

This code:
<img src="http://www.eons.com/images/members/ 2009/1/24/1/5/15447723216143518187.gif" />

gives you this:

The rest of the post is just more explanation of what is going on. Have Fun!

I had a nightmare last night that I snuck on Photobucket only to get hit big time by that monster! It scares me every time I go there. But that's where ALL of my graphics are! I think it would be a good idea for everyone to post their animated and plain gifs in this message or a new one set up for the subject. So we can all get a good selection of gifs. We all know what a pain it is searching! You have to go through all that junk to find something worth wanting.

Mimi, I used the image URL (direct link) with the image code and couldn't get anything?
