Product to help prevent bathroom falls
Falls in showers and tubs deadly to senior citizens and Slip Care offers solution
Dec. 4, 2008 – Falling is a high-risk disaster for senior citizens, who are more than 13 times as likely to die from a fall as are those even slightly younger in the 55 to 64 age group. There is a new product on the market that is targeting a solution from many of these deadly falls – the ones that happen in the bathroom. And, Slip Care, Inc. is even offering a senior discount on their Website.
“Our goal is to make every bathroom safer,” the company says. It intends to do this by convincing more people to use their non-skid coating kit called “Stop It.”
Stop It can be applied by practically anyone without the need of hiring an expensive professional installer to do the work, says marketing director, Ted Sheridan.
It has already been used in tens of thousands of residential bathtubs and showers as well in many hotels across Europe, which is where the product was created. SlipCare of Florida is the North America distributor for Giorgin products from Germany.
The Home Safety Council recommends older adults install grab bars and non-skid mats or adhesive inside showers and tubs.
Bathmats are one of the most common means used to prevent dangerous slips and falls, however they provide a haven for bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus, cautions the distributors of Stop It.
They are difficult to clean and because they are constantly exposed to dirt and warm water a bathmat is the “perfect nest” for all of these nice little bugs to thrive. The only fully effective way of cleaning and disinfecting any bathmat requires either steam cleaning or the use of strong harmful chemicals.
Non-skid adhesive strips are another popular, yet ineffective method, used to prevent wet area accidents. These strips or appliqués will quickly wear off and peel free leaving behind unsightly dirt attracting sticky messes and the removal of these strips or appliqués can at best be described as difficult and usually they are destructive to the cosmetic appearance of the surface area, according to the promoters of Stop It.
The promotion from Slip Care says Stop It replaces the need for any of these other methods through the use of a completely transparent anti-skid coating.
Stop It also comes with a product guarantee for three years.
The company says the product is an ease to apply and becomes transparent when the coating is dry in approximately 12 hours. The surface is also chemical resistant and easy to clean.
Although heavily promoted for bathroom use, the company says it can be applied in many locations, indoors and out - wherever there are very slippery areas.
