I'm working on a book and need to know if I can write a short story fiction book. Haven't counted the words but I have more then 30 pages so far. I'm really excited to get this done and published in 1/2 year if everything goes right and life doesn't get in the way of me publishing it. It may with all that is going on in my life right now. Praying alot!

Welcome to Eons Book Gallery Vex1!
To answer your question I have gathered this: The number of words in a novel will vary depending on the genre. A young-adult novel will run between 20,000 and 40,000 words. That would be the length of a novella in mainstream fiction.

Many genres seem to have succumbed to supersizing. A mass-market western, mystery or SF novel used to run to 60,000-70,000 words. Now they're more likely to hit 90,000 words. Fantasy novels seem to be about 125,000 words—per volume, with some series going on and on. Mainstream fiction can be anywhere from 55,000 words (about the length of many mass-market romances) to ten times that.

Short story collections have been doing well on the market I have heard. They can be fiction or memoirs.

Welcome to all of our new members.
