Back to the grind & takin a dip

Well the holidays are over. In a bit I must go to work for my 3:30 until 2AM shift. Hey I'm not complaining as I know I'm lucky to still have a job. Its a drag though when you work in a machine shop and you haven't anything to machine. Thank GOD for crossword puzzles. Tonight we are likly to get frezing rain which will make it more interesting on the drive home. On Sunday a co-worker of mine who had been bugging me to bring my canoe to his Uncles place and go fishing, well I did. We fished and paddled up this creek called the Illinois Bayou. The fish weren't biteing but he was drinking and I can say now, a few too many beers. Well he stands up and then falls down which tips the canoe and I do a head dive into the creek. Talk about a rush. I managed to get back into the boat while he scampered up the bank. I gathered up a paddle and beer cans that were floating nearby. I got the canoe to a rocky beach and dumped out the water. My cell phone seems to have survived and my wallet stayed pretty dry. I noticed my left hand was starting to swell up and it hurt. All this time the temp is in the upper 40's. It was a cold paddle back to the take out. I survived. My hand well, I can't squeeze the toothpaste tube and I can't turn on the water. Its still puffed up big time. My wife said I need to go to a doctor but I know there isn't anything they can do except charge my bank account. So soon I will go foreword, through the rain and droping temps to get to work, always with a smile on my face, and see what this New Year 2009 brings forth...

Tell me you left him on the bank! I use drybags for that that possibility. I miss a lot of photo ops trying to get the camera out but for flatwater touring I lash the bag to the canoe and feel a little more secure. Can't always plan for everything I guess.
