When we spot "our" old car...

The other day, while driving in a nearby small town, I saw it! IT was a yellow Chevy Impala, the same (or so I thought) as the one I drove in high school in 1971. I was fixated on that beauty! Two "older" guys got out of it, and all I wanted to do was drive over the median and talk to them! I was frozen in time for just a moment. Then I noticed that it was a '67 and I drove a '66, but that didn't matter, the moment was forever etched in my mind. Oh, what wonder times those were!

............hey Mike, I see we have something else in common. Our old classic cars/trucks. I only have my 64 Falon Sprint coupe, and 55 F-350 one ton pickup, and 48 F-4 Step-Van two ton milk truck, and 51 20' Silver Streak Rocket aluminum travel trailer left. I started with my 31 Ford Model "A" in 65', and though never acquiring another one quite like that after Nam, I started in 72 with my first of 37 "48-56 F-series Ford pickups/panels, big trucks, and later when my third son was born and we needed a family car, it started with my first Falcon(a pre-60 Falcon 2door, no 13,000), the first of a total of 36 I have owned, and along the way, several others of one sort or other, but pretty much always Fords. I had been a member of the Ford Model A Club of America, and then later a founding member of the Portland Oregon "Henry's Half Tons" Ford pickup club. And along the way I became a mechanic so I do all my own work, and also became an investor in good used parts that I bought-sold-traded, and which I still have thousands of parts out in my shop. Two of my sons love the classics, and Joe up in Oregon has even made the oldies his life interest, and has become a professional mechanic, and member of many clubs, and restorers, and has a hell of an internet cars and parts business on Ebay. I will try pretty soon to find my album and post some of my old cars I have owned and still own. Erik

I picked up my 57 Chevy as a way to get into the hobby. I've had it for 3 1/2 years and learned tons of stuff and do all my own work. I don't plan to learn welding or major body work, but mechanical stuff is fun and I've had lots of "firsts" for me with this car - like rebuilding the carb, replacing the brakes, putting on a full exhaust system, replacing leaf springs, replacing fuel pump and water pump. Now I have an intake I need to install. The internet has made it all possible! I belong to a couple of classic chevy websites and they teach me everything I need to know. I replaced the entire fuel line, tank, sending unit as well as the starter and solenoid. Lots of these things were just words to me, I wouldn't have known a solenoid if it hit me in the face! I need to get back into working on it now that I have some more time.
