Adding Color to Your eons Profile!

Placing a color background into your profile, at this time, is being done through the use of Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS for short.

In some cases, the use of CSS in profiles have also been known to cause portions of the profile to disappear, freeze up the computers of some visitors, slow down the loading of the profile and a few other problems...these are caused by members who are placing incorrect tagging in their profiles and that do not possess the knowledge to correct the tagging. Overloading the profile with graphics and even music can lead to a multitude of problems for some members attempting to access your profile. Incorrect CSS can even cause a visitor to your profile to wind up having to reboot his/her computer...all because of incorrect CSS! This is why I used the term "at this time" in the first paragraph of this post! Do not be surprised if, within the near future, eons technicians close up the "loophole" which currently permits members to insert their own CSS tags.

When placing a CSS script into your profile to color the background...

1) Open your eons profile.

2) Click "Edit My History".

3) Paste your CSS tags at the end of your history narrative.

Techie44 has come up with CSS script you can use...you can CLICK HERE to view the script.

You may change the color hex numbers to match those colors you wish to use.

If you do not have access to a chart of the 216 browser-safe colors and their applicable hex numbers, you can find a great chart at Cloford.com or by CLICKING HERE!

Thanks for helping me.

Here are some pre-done color schemes for the group. I did this because the link provided in the original post is just a "picture" of the code that can't be cut/pasted and it's easy to mistype HTML code. Also, it's easy to get confused with all the hexidecimal color representations.

This is easy...

1. Go to the FILES section of this group. You will see that I uploaded a simple text file that contains five sample color themes...including a cantalope/honeydew one at the end that I just couldn't resist (lol).

2. Click on the file ("Profiles Color Themes") to open it. Highlight, right-click and copy the color theme you want out of the file (JUST THE CODE!!!)

3. Go to your profile page and click on "Edit My History". Go to THE END of your history and start a blank line.

4. Right-click and paste the code you just copied at the end of your history and save.

That's it. To change your color theme, replace the code with another theme. To go back to standard Eons white, just delete the code from the end of your history section.

Note that I stripped the style sheet down to the two elements that can be easily modified: background (the body) and the section headers (h2). This causes the least amount of trouble with all the basic Eons styling on the page. I tried a really dark background and changed the "p"aragraph (text) code to white but then you have to start fooling around with all the different colors Eons uses for the links on the page. Too much crap. Just working with the background and headers is both appealing and easy. It's also less code to hang up a page, as Lee has already mentioned.

If anyone is really ambitious, they could develop more themes and post them too. Thanks to Lee for starting this thread and putting me on the path. Hope people can put this to some use. We could all use a little more color in our lives.
