Nostalgic Travel
Nostalgic memories of family vacations from one’s youth are both amusing and precious. They can also understandably harbor some less than pleasant experiences as well. I can recall all those fabulous travels of my youth, the unique wondrous places we visited, and the hours and days of family fun, interaction, and education. However, I can also recall the craziness in preparing to go on a trip, the parental reminders of how expensive things are, and the occasional stressful situations of being lost, breaking down, or dealing with on the road ailments, accidents, and mishaps that seem to always happen while on vacation.
During the upcoming Holidays and family get-togethers, note how the conversations always seem to gravitate towards memory lane, the recalling of fabulous family occasions, vacations, and fun times, or worse the teasing embarrassing situations. There is nothing better than watching those old family videos with parents, grandparents, and siblings, or leisurely meandering through photo albums during those family gatherings. When you think about it, the majority of all those family videos and snapshots are of special occasions and vacations – specific moments in one's family life to cherish.
When asked what was the most important thing to save in the event of an eminent disaster like a flood or fire, most people said they would grab their family memories storied in photo books (or if your like me, in photo boxes) and on film/videos. The advances in electronic technology has made taking, storing, correcting, and viewing photos and videos easier, but that’s almost cold in comparison to snuggling up near a cracking fire giggling and awing over past family moments in a photo album with a loved one.
Regardless of the wonderful or less than wonderful trip or vacation, travel creates fantastic family bonding opportunities, and those times are always filled with life-long memories that are shared repeatedly throughout one’s life. We are more than happy at Gold Country Families to be able to share many of our stories with the rest of the world. If you have a travel story to share, please forward it to the editor for review with the possibility of being published as a featured article or in the Reader’s Story section. Even the kids can share their experiences in the new Kids Travel section. We look forward to hearing from the entire family.
Travel Thoughts: The economy right now is depressing, but what better way to make sweet lemonade out of lemons then to take advantage of the deep discounts offered by many of the travel vendors and vacation destinations who are as well economically depressed. Taking a vacation is a great way to relieve some of the daily stresses by allowing one to get away from it all for a short while, relax, and come back refreshed and invigorated; plus it’s also good for one’s health. Besides your health, it will also help the travel vendor and vacation destination as well survive.
Speaking of survival, please share the Gold Country Families E-Magazine’s web address with all your friends and family members so they may as well share in the wealth of free travel information and entertainment the magazine has to offer.
