New to EarthWatch

Hi,
I live in Australia and have just signed up for my very first EarthWatch epedition, Amazon Riverboat Exploration. I go next March 2009.
I am currently researching how to get there, where to stay & how to get to other places like, Lima, Cuzco, Puno, and what I want to see.
I am also volunteering after this one at Ayacucho, Peru, with Cross Cultural Solutions, hoping to volunteer in healthcare.
My passion is photography, so I am hopinng to get some great photos!

Hi, welcome to Earthwatch! I'm sure you'll get get photos on the Amazon expedition - they have incredible sunsets, amazing jungle, and a whole variety of animals.

Hello Chris,

I did the very first team of the Amazon Riverboat Exploration expedition two years ago, going about the same time as you, but to a different site. I envy you. You are in for some unforgetable sights, and yes, it's a wonderful place for photography. You will float past people making thier living, flooded forests, macaws many other creatures. I flew through Lima and stayed Manhattan Hotel, though our flight was delayed and we arrived so late, I would have been better off at the airport.

Cuzco is beautiful, though I can't remember the name of the hotel I stayed at. You should learn to say, "I've eaten already" in Spanish as you'll be approached by lots of people looking to invite you to their restaurants. If you are into photography, you should take the train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, as the ride and the ruins are quite beautiful. I visited in Nov. and there were lots of wildflowers in the woods surrounding the site. Not sure about March.
