Rough time of it

Ever since I had ALL my teeth pulled.I havent felt pretty or sexy.I look in the mirror and see my moms face.I dont look in the mirror alot these days.My self esteem has gone waaaaaay down the tubes. Now I know I will be getting dentures in a few weeks. But I am embarrased I guess I could say.I dont want any one to see me like this.Only place I've gone is the short walk to the drug store.and I did get groceries the other day.
I have been told before I think too much.I just want to cry.
What if the dentures dont make me look like me?IWhat if I cant wear them? I just want to look like ME.
I am having a good cry as I type this.
Ususally I can get past anything bad and move on.But this situation has me REALLY down.
Thank you for reading my words.I needed to get this out.I dont feel I am good for any one else when I am so down.

Doreen, I am so sorry. I too have been down a lot in the last month. But please realize you are going to get the new teeth and then you will look fabulous. They will fit good. Today's technology is not the one of our parents where they did not fit properly. I have a friend that has dentures and she loves them. So wipe those tears and smile. You are loved, if I were near you I would give you a big hug. Pam

Doreen, you hang in there. Everything will be okay again my friend. Those teeth will fit and you will be looking like your old self in no time. Chin up and get out and take a walk and stay away from the mirrors as much as you can until you get those choppers. LOL!

Doreen I thought the new technology put the teeth right back in your mouth after the extractions. I know at least two people who did that and never went without teeth. My mom had upper and lower dentures and would not go without her uppers, but said the lowers were very uncomfortable. I can understand how this would have a hit on your self-esteem, but like everyone has said, things will be better soon.

I have gone thru the same thing.
I lost alot of teeth and they made me 2 bridges for the upper & lowers.
I can't eat, talk or anything with them in and I don't like the way the upper one looks.
I went back to have them checked, cause I thought it was just the way they fit, the dentist said they were perfect and that was all they could do considering.........
Considering what I would like to know.
Good luck with yours, I had wished they would of pulled all my uppers and made a plate, thought that would be easier but they couldn't cause I had so many good teeth.
so, I have became a hermit, don't like seeing people I know toothless. People says that they can't tell, but, I know they lie to me cause at 2 is in the front area, I do have my front teeth and more on the right side than the left side.
Let me know how you come along.
Mine stay in the cup in my dresser for now.........

I am a functioning Agoraphobic. So this doesnt help in getting me to leave my home.
The day I went to the dentist for impressions.I had no idea till I was in the chair. That he planned on pulling all my teeth TODAY.They were lucky I had taken Ibuprohen to relax a little before I went.Or I'd a flew out of the chair in fright.
I'm also concerned. If I will be able to sing again.I am proud!I DO have an awesome voice.Since I broke my wrist back first week in April.I can not play my guitar.I'm working on making my fingers an hand stronger.
My friend has dentures that he doesnt wear.He says it's hard to get use to them.He wore them once over here. The teeth didnt look good in his mouth.
I get to try them on Thursday. But have one more stage to go,so they say.probably due to adjustments I'd think.

just don't give up if you have a bad fitting denture .keep bugging him till he gets it right! I got my upper when I was only 30, they went right in. and the swelling had not gone down and I was very upset because I looked like bugs bunny . he told me they would look normal once the swelling was gone.he was right . but than at 44 i had the bottom removed am not as happy with them but i where them with the help of fix-a- dent. it just takes time and you will get used to them , some give up. but don't do that .

My mother lost her upper teeth due to a fall. She had false teeth and she looked exactly the same. You will be so happy when you get your teeth. Good luck.

Dear Doreen,

I know exactly how you feel, Sista!! Honest I do, I like you had all of my teeth pulled a few years ago and even though I had dentures put in at the time they pulled my teeth I found some days I could not wear them. I looked in the mirror and saw a woman who was not me. I have to tell you that I grew up with the most beautiful teeth in the world, perfectly straight and white and just beautiful. All of my life no matter what else was happening I could always tell myself well at least I look good when I smile and that would always make things not seem so terrible.

When I got so ill in 1998, I could not eat anything, everything that I tried to eat just made me sick and did not digest correctly, and I developed reflux at the same time. So while I was sleeping my stomach acid would come up my throat and literally drown my teeth and the body not taking the right vitamins and minerals made my teeth turn to swiss cheese and made them soft. So as they decayed I got sicker. The Indian Health Doctors could not or would not determine what was wrong with me and so I watched my smile turn ugly. One of my front teeth fell out and I was so embarrassed that I would not smile or even talk to anyone. I was not a very nice person because of it.

The Indian Health Dentists do not do dental care on the Natives, that is why most of the Native people have dentures by the time they become adults. It is cheaper for the government to not have to provide dental care because they would be too expensive. Anyway, a year after I got my dentures they did not fit properly and I could not even wear them. So I had to go without and the dentists at the VA now tell me that was because they were not made to fit my mouth. When Indian Health says generic they really mean generic. Anyway I know how you are feeling and there is not a day that goes by that I am able to look in a mirror and smile because I have wrinkles and a sagging face where there were teeth once upon a time.

I am in the process of waiting on my new dentures too, just like you and I can hardly wait. I know that it will take 30+years off of my appearance and I will feel better and more like smiling so just hang in there Sista!!! We can do this together. Just remember that you are still the same you that you were, you just will have teeth that will be easier to clean than before. You will never have to figure out how to get the dental floss way in the back of your mouth, and no more bad breath. You can get those effervesant tabs and make them fresh every morning. If by chance they really do not fit well, go to the dentist and have them adjusted. If that does not help do not (I repeat DO NOT) use those glue things. First go out to the drug store and buy a pack of upper and lower SeaBond inserts. They are not really that expensive. Then when you have your dentures out take a piece of plain paper and make a pattern of how the little inserts would fit perfectly into your dentures. Take the paper form and trace it onto a piece of cardboard. Then cut it out, one for each the top and the bottom. That way you can use that form to cut the SeaBond inserts to fit inside your dentures perfectly. When you put them in wet it and then put it into the plate and press it down. If there are wrinkles or over lapping pieces cut little triangles out and mark that on the form so that the next time you will already cut it out. Keep each form in the appropriate box with the inserts, like the top form with the top inserts, etc.

They are very thin, but they use the suction of your mouth to keep the plates in. They will stay in and be easy to remove if you need to take them out. Give yourself a chance to get used to them, and yet they will make your smile and you look absolutely beautiful.

Oh by the way, until I got dentures I could not tell what movie stars wore them, but now that I have them I can spot them a mile away. Just by looking you will be able to tell too. Let me know who you think does and I will share with you who I think does.

Love and hugz,
Debi
